16/9 resolution
« on: May 19, 2013, 07:55:52 AM »
Hi,

I have a logitech c525, a very common webcam I think, it support an aspect ratio of 16/9, but in icamsource as well as in some other surveillance software that I tried, the full field of view of the camera cannot be showed, I see the image cutted on the left and right to fit the 4/3 resolution.
Can you do something for this?

Thanks

Support for widescreen webcams has been requested in the past and is currently on our list of potential features to implement in the future.

Excuse me, today I noticed for the first time the I can swipe the image of a widescreen camera, left or right like a digital PTZ.
Is this a new feature of the last recent update or it always has been there and I didn't noticed it until today?

It's cool..anyway what I meant is:
it's possible to zoom out the entire image as I can see all the field of view without to PAN?

Thanks.

edit:
Quote
"Increasing the size of the images captured by the iCamSource as well as supporting High Definition 16:9 aspect ratio streams are something that we are looking into, but there are many aspects of the software that we would need to take into account. (Increased storage requirements, increased processor usage, increased bandwidth, etc.) Additionally, displaying a mix of 4:3 and 16:9 streams on 16:9 (iPhone 5), 1.5:1 (iPhone 4S and earlier), and 4:3 (iPad) aspect ratio screens is going to need some working out."

Ah! I read this just now, so I presume the PAN feature is new, and if I understood well, you want to add the possibility to zoom out in the future..
right?

edit2: I also noticed that now the widescreen camera run smooth when in preview mode but if I double tap in to fullscreen, it refresh itself only 1 time a second, I again have the problem discussed here:

Unfortunately, that is not currently possible. Originally, the image was just cropped to fit the screen, but then it was updated to allow you to swipe to see the sides of the widescreen image.

ok, as I said it's cool, but..
..what about that behavior, of the widescreen camera only, that update images @ 1fps when in fullscreen? (in local network of course)
is the same problem I had with all cameras in the prevoius version and you gave me some beta logger versions to solve the problem, and you did it...

The previous framerate issue you referred to was fixed in the code, so this is most likely caused by something different. What behavior happens when the phone and the computer are connected to the same local network?

I'm always on LAN when I do these tests,.. well, as I said the behavior is that:
actually only with the wide camera(c525), when I double tap it, the network traffic drops and Framerate drops too.
Others Logitech cameras and Smartcam(SourceForge) for nokia symbian and for Windows, works normally.

Does this behavior occur even if the widescreen camera is the only one running?

Also, we'll be investigating the problem and we'll let you know if we need you to test anything for us.

Thank you.

If you change the Better Image Quality to Better Frame Rate, does that have any effect on the behavior?

Hi, well.. I tried right now.

I have to say that the quality bar has no effect "on the fly", I mean I have to set it and then press the start button, I test it, then I have to stop it, at this point icamsource always crash with lame_enc.dll error file, I restart it and then I change the bar value again.

By the way it has effect on fps, but to have a decent framerate I have to set it to very low value, and the quality of the image is so bad, nothing to compare with others cameras.

Please try the 2.4.3b version that previously worked for you, posted here: http://skjm.com/forum/index.php?topic=1708.msg16164#msg16164

With the v2.4.3b I am still able to swipe left and right to PAN the widescreen camera.
By the way that behavior persist.
