Error After iCam Source is running for about a day
« on: March 23, 2012, 03:33:21 PM »
I am getting a .NET error when after running iCam Source for about a day or so. Seems to be pretty consistent.

Everything works OK for remote access via iPad/iPhone (only on wi-fi) after about a day of running ok I can no longer access my cameras. If I stop iCam reboot the machine, restart iCam it's fine for another day or so. I have the error below when on the machine after the issue.

Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks!

I've been having this same problem lately.
I'm on a PC with Windows XP and a USB webcam.
I've updated using the 2 links in the above message and the iCam is still randomly stopping giving me a .net error that requires me to quit the application and restart it.
Once I restart the application, it works fine.

I'm just trying to figure out how to get it to run consistently because we now rely on it so much to watch our baby while she sleeps!

It's possible that the registry key has somehow gotten into a bad state.

Please download and run (double-click) this file: http://skjm.com/icam/CleaniCamKey.reg

That will erase the current iCamSource settings in your registry. You will need to re-enter all of your settings, but hopefully the problem will be resolved if it's due to a problem in the registry.

Make sure that Windows is fully updated through Windows Update.

Also, please run two prerequisites that must be installed in order for iCamSource to run properly, the Visual Studio Redistributable Package(vcredist_x86.exe) and the .Net framework.

Visual C++ Redistributable Package: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=A5C84275-3B97-4AB7-A40D-3802B2AF5FC2&displaylang=en

.NET Framework: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=9cfb2d51-5ff4-4491-b0e5-b386f32c0992

Thanks so much for the quick reply!
I will give that a try.  I already had made sure my Windows and .net and C++ were both updated - I ran those last week after finding this thread via a google search.

I'll try the registry key clearing. Thanks!

Registry key clearing didn't work.
I still got some kind of application exception.  I will have to copy it and post it here.
Not sure what else I can do, but the crashing happens almost every day, making this mama sad that she can't keep an eye on the baby while she works!

Is your webcam plugged into a USB hub or extension cable? If so, please try plugging it directly into the computer.

Make sure that Windows is fully updated through Windows Update and that you have the latest drivers installed for your webcam.

Also, please make sure there aren't any other video capture programs (such as Skype) running. They might be fighting iCamSource for access to the camera.

The camera is plugged directly into the laptop.  The laptop is used soley for running iCamSource - so no one uses it for anything else like Skype etc.
I did already run the Windows update check, but I'll try again to be sure and I'll check the camera drivers, which I hadn't done.

This is the error I got the other day when it crashed.

Unhandled exception has occurred in your aplication.  If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue.  If you click Quit, the application will close immediately.  Object is currently in use elsewhere.

Ok - rechecked windows, it is fully up to date.
Used the device manager to check the camera (VIMICRO USB PC CAMERA V) which says that the driver is also up to date.
Not sure if there is anything else I can do... but it did crash again this morning with the same error.

And the actual camera is a Kinamax WCM-NV13 6-LED Infrared Night-Vision 1.3 MP USB 2.0 Webcam with Audio Microphone - my husband says it's pretty old (3+ years?) so not sure if maybe that is the problem?

Please make sure that you are running the latest version of iCamSource (2.5) available here: http://skjm.com/icam/support.php

What are the specification of the computer, (CPU, RAM, etc.)?

Also, how many cameras are you running and what is the Brand/Model of each?

Thanks for helping me out with this:
It's an IBM T40
Windows XP Pro version 2002 SP 3
1600 MHz Intel Pentium Processor, 1.59 GHz 1.50 GB RAM

There is only one camera associated with the laptop and actually the laptop is dedicated ONLY to running the camera and the iCam software - nothing else is ever running on the machine.

What is the % CPU usage of the iCamSource application? Also, try reducing the frequency of motion detection or even disabling it completely to see if that improves stability.

The CPU usage is only 25% and we already have the camera set to "best image quality", which I think is what you mean by turning off motion detection?
It actually seems to be working better after the reinstallation - now it's been 24 hours and it is still running, so maybe it is better?  Thanks for all the help.
