Greetings.  I just installed ipCam and it works great on my home LAN.  Is it possible to use this over a 3g connection?  I shut off WiFi on my iPhone 3gs to force it over 3g.  I then try the external address provided in Advanced, as well as the http:// address provided at the bottom of the Advanced screen - but I cannot connect over 3g.
Using the same method, iCam works just fine ... I've enabled DynDNS and that doesn't work either.
Any ideas?  Thanks!

Said another way ... if I am out on the road, can someone in my house connect to my iPhone ipCam and see what I want to show them?

ipCam won't work over 3G because you would have to be able to configure the mobile 3G provider's routers to allow you to accept incoming connections directly to your phone.

I guess I really misunderstood what ipCam could do.  What would you use it for?  I can't see leaving my iPhone home to act as a "webcam" ... how are others using it ... thanks.

Works great. Went to lunch at hotel and watched maid in room cleaning using iPad and iPhone. iPad in room on wifi and iPhone outside on 3G

I would like to use my iPad camera as a nanny cam and monitor it remotely either from my work PC or my iPhone.  How do I set this up?  I have downloaded ipcam on my iPad, now what do I do?  Any help is most appreciated!  Thank you.

To remotely view your iPad on your work computer or another iDevice with iCam it needs to be connected, like any other WiFi network IP camera, to a computer running iCamSource.

Does this mean that the iPad needs to be plugged into a PC?  Is there no way to use the built in camera of the ipadwithout plugging it into a computer?  The only computer that is available is a laptop running over a wireless network.  Is it possible to use icam in this configuration?  Sorry - computer novice here...thank you for your help.

Also, should I be using ipcam on my iPad or icam?  My iPad would not download the icamsource software...only ipcam.  Is this correct?

No, that does not mean it needs to be connected physically to a computer.

You can try enabling "Automatic Port Forwarding" in the Advanced Options in ipCam. If you connect from a remote network, you'll need to connect to the external IP, which is shown at the top of the Advanced Options page. If the "Automatic Port Forwarding" option does not work, please let me know what error message you receive when you have that option enabled.

1. Is there a program/software for an hp with windows vista that will do video recording from my ipCam on the same wifi network.  One that also has motion detection...

2. Does the ipCam app not work with the iCam app... meaning, is it possible to view my ipCam video on my iCam iphone app?

1. You can setup iCamSource to record Motion Events. - http://skjm.com/icam/help/motion_detection.php

2. To view ipCam on your iPhone running iCam it would then need to connected, like any other WiFi network IP camera, to a computer running iCamSource.

When you run iCamSource, you'll need to select the "Ethernet /Wi-Fi" tab because the camera is a network camera, and enter the ipCam URL: http://ip:port/video.mjpg

Yes, run ipCam on your iPhone, and at the bottom there will be an http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/ URL. (The xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx will be the specific IP address for your iPad, something like 192.168.1.1) Use that URL to set up a camera in iCamSource like you would any other Network IP camera: http://skjm.com/icam/help/#setup

When you run iCamSource, you'll need to select the "Ethernet /Wi-Fi" tab. Then, enter the MJPEG JPEG URL for your iPhone running ipCam.

The MJPEG URL for ipCam is http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/video.mjpg (where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is your iPhone's IP address).

(I would also suggest turning on the "4:3 Crop" option in ipCam since you are going to be using it with the iCamSource and iCam.)

ipCam turns your iPhone's camera into a network IP camera it does not have any recording functionality. If you have it connected to a computer running iCamSource then yes, Motion Events are stored like any other WiFi network IP camera connected to iCamSource. - http://skjm.com/icam/help/motion_detection.php
