auto start when notebook boots up as service
« on: July 12, 2010, 07:49:21 PM »
Please help me how to write the "AppParameters" if I am currently using notebook camera on window vista.

Posted by Viop-ninja

Name the String Value "AppParameters" (no quotes).  Choose Type REG_SZ.  In the Data value enter the options for the iCam which will need to be the URL to the camera and the login/password for iCam access.  Example -url=http://192.168.0.103/nphMotionJpeg?Resolution=320x240&Quality=Standard -cu=mylogin -cp=mypass (no quotes around this).

Setting up iCamSource as a service isn't supported, but it is possible, as you found in this thread: http://skjm.com/forum/index.php?topic=447.0

The instructions in that thread  are relatively complex and can cause problems with your system if done incorrectly.  Is there a particular reason you want to run iCamSource as a service as opposed to just launching the program on startup?  You can launch iCamSource on startup by putting a shortcut to iCamSource in the Startup folder.

All of this advice is assuming you have a Windows machine, as I don't really have any experience with Mac OS.

Have you considered putting a password on your account, and making the kids use a guest account (or some account that you create that maybe runs a web filter for kids AND restricts users from installing programs and restricts access to the Ctrl-Alt-Delete feature? That would be much more secure in terms of virii, malware, etc, in addition to keeping icamsource running (unless they reboot your computer). All you would have to do (after creating the account) is log in to the computer and then switch users (do not log off). Of course, if your camera is a USB camera, they could always unplug it...or even uninstall it if you don't restrict their user priveledges. The following google search might help you find some information on created a limited user account for the kids:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&safe=off&rls=com.microsoft:en-us&q=create+limited+user+account&revid=24214943&sa=X&ei=yCo9TMDaAcGB8gaxzvimBg&ved=0CFAQ1QIoAQ

Even if you start icamsource as a service, the kids will still be able to stop it if you allow them to continue using an administrator account...using Ctrl-Alt-Delete or the control panel.
