iCam does not currently support zoom. Support for zoom has been requested in the past and is currently on our list of potential features to implement in the future.

We discuss the supported Pan/Tilt cameras on our forum at: http://skjm.com/forum/index.php?topic=3162.0

The Foscam cameras in the first post on that thread are the cameras we'd recommend.

Do you have any more recent camera suggestions?

I need at least 1 outdoor camera (that will only be sort of under the awning - so it needs to be able to handle the elements)

The cameras on the thread (http://skjm.com/forum/index.php?topic=3162.0) are the ones we own and have tested with. We also, support  Built-In, FireWire or USB Webcams and DV Cameras as well as select MJPEG-compatible Network IP Cameras.

i am a new poster to icam.  i am not sure if i am using the right camera. but the icam ad said u can use up to 10. this puzzles me as i am only given the choice of 1 camera the integreated or the one at the top of the screen of my lap top. should the pulldown have more options? i have an IP on wifi and a web cam usb plug in also connected.
thanks

You can add up to 16 webcams or network IP cameras from a single computer, although your computer's hardware limitations (USB bus, CPU, memory) may further limit that number.

To add a camera, click on the + button underneath the cameras pane (for a screenshot go to http://skjm.com/icam/help/#setup) and follow the instructions below:

For USB, FireWire, or Built-In webcams, you should be able to make your choice from the Audio and Video drop-down lists underneath the USB / FireWire / Built-In tab.

If you add a stand-alone network IP camera, you first need to find the correct MJPEG or JPEG URL for your camera. Enter it along with your camera's Login and Password (if any) into the iCamSource.

More detailed instructions are available at our Getting Started pages: http://skjm.com/icam/help/#setup

Great forum, am new to iCam.   Is there any CONCEALED camera supported....I am thinking one mounted in a clock or some other innocuous looking product?

iCam supports Built-In, FireWire or USB Webcams and DV Cameras as well as select MJPEG-compatible Network IP Cameras.

We have not tested with any "concealed" cameras  but if they output MJPEG formatted data they should work.

Hi
This forum is not very active and all the cameras listed here seem to be discontinued.
Is this software still supported?
How can I choose suitable camera ?
Best regards.
Shay.

Yes, iCam is still supported. iCam supports Built-In, FireWire or USB Webcams and DV Cameras as well as select MJPEG-compatible Network IP Cameras. The recommended cameras on our forum are cameras we have tested with. - http://skjm.com/forum/index.php?topic=908.0

Hello.
Its few months old post but since I just did some digging recently, so happened I found few clock cams, utilizing MJPEG compression, I thought I share it:
1.   In this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3YkdRECnryY  gentleman presenting cam (at the end of presentation) does says specifically it does work with iCam. Drawback is, this particular supplier https://ugadget.com/shop/motion-activated-table-clock/ has no return policy. http://ugadget.com/about/#warranty Quote:” Due to the nature of our spy product line, some items may only be used once, and then are no longer needed. For this reason, All Sales are Final !”. Since they are obstructing who manufacturer of the cam is, I was not able to find alternative distributor. I found few very similar looking clock cams but they appear not to be even IP cams (hence if looking on your own, dig details and don’t get confused by strikingly similar look): http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=clock+camera&FORM=HDRSC2&id=1A24509479BCE4BD5D4ED3DAA397F6CABCD080F3&selectedIndex=0#a Posting information just in case someone manage to find after all different place to buy it.
2.    Another clock cam: http://www.spytecinc.com/720p-hd-wi-fi-ip-digital-clock-camera-with-night-vision.html
3.   Yet another one, this one is pricy ($480): http://ladiesdetective.com/megapixel-hd-wireless-spy-camera-hidden-pinhole-lens-in-radio-alarm-clock-night-vision-wi-fi-ip-cam-video-audio-dvr-motion-detection-recording-remote-view/
I must say its bit pity iCam does not support h.264 compression, after all, perhaps as alternative to MJPEG. After watching video (link below) it seems iCam developing team really go after what’s the best and available (since MxPEG seems practically not existing among cam manufacturers, as of yet anyway):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d6GgLXS3L8E
Problem is, it seems, better picture quality and higher end cam manufacturers, seems to almost always opt for h.264, claiming its way better for storage, bandwidth, even admittedly it requires more processing and memory power (see link below). While there are some decent and good quality h.264 cams, MJPEG ones are much harder to find, at least those worth of buying (which excludes all terrible reputation Chinese ones, suffering flaky WiFi connection, not upgradable outdated buggy firmware etc etc).

Thanks for that additional information.

For more information about H.264 and iCam please see our Forum post here: http://skjm.com/forum/index.php?topic=5327.msg16726#msg16726

Hi Stefan and team!

I have a question, is the original post in this thread updated to reflect current cameras? If so, a "Updated on 1/1/15" or something would be helpful so we know it is not still a list from 2010.

If not, where can I find an updated list?  I just want a simple, "place it and go" type set up that has high quality. I do not want any wiring. Batteries would be better than plugging it in so I can place it on bookshelves, etc.

Also, is there an outdoor one (sheltered, but still outdoor) that would no require any wiring (besides power) and still be super easy to set up and configure?

Thanks!

El Diablo Joe

This post is just a list of the cameras we've personally tried, it's not a compatibility list. iCam/iCam Pro supports Built-In, FireWire or USB Webcams and DV Cameras as well as MJPEG-compatible Network IP Cameras.

If there's a certain camera model that you are interested in, but aren't sure if it meets the requirements, please send us a link or name of the model and we can let him know if it meets the requirements.

We haven't personally tried any battery powered or outdoor cameras, so we can't really suggest one over the other.
