push notifications - cost?
« on: February 17, 2014, 03:01:37 AM »
Hello.

I'm quite new to the idea of this kind of monitoring, but I love the idea and iCam looks to be very good.

There are two things I am not clear on and both have to do with the push notifications.
  • How do they reach your phone (an Android device, in my case), from your source computer?
  • How much do these notifications cost?

The source software is free, the app is 2.99 on amazon, but the notifications must cost something.
I'd be happy if they did not, of course!

Thanks!

The Push Notifications use the Google Cloud Messaging for Android. - http://aws.amazon.com/sns/

Notifications are a free service.

Please let us know if you have any further questions.

Free, eh? Well that's a good price  8)
  • So, once I have purchased the app, there are no further running costs?

Strange thing:
Google displays the price as 5.51 Canadian.
Amazon.COM displays the price as 3.59 (Canadian, I assume, because the price is listed at 2.99 until I log in.).
  • Is there a reason for the difference (3.59, instead of 5.51, is clearly much better.)?

Amazon.CA, however, tells me "You are not eligible to purchase this app due to geographical restrictions."
  • Do you have any idea why it would say that?

Thanks.

Ordinarily, the prices should be the same. However,
company A may choose to price its products different
from company B. Also, the versions may not be the same.
Again, you raised the issue of geographical limitation with
Amazon, and that limitation could have accounted for the
cave in on the part of Amazon. Forum will do its best to
ascertain the descrepancy though. Thank you.

Thank you.
I'd be interested in knowing about the discrepancy, but it's not urgent.
If there are no running costs, after the initial purchase, I'll be overjoyed and (likely) a customer.
Thanks!

Both the Amazon and Google Apps are the same.

The app is available for all regions. It shows up on the Canadian store here: http://www.amazon.ca/SKJM-LLC-iCam-Webcam-Streaming/dp/B00FGD22O8/ref=sr_1_16?ie=UTF8&qid=1393279378&sr=8-16&keywords=icam

Unfortunately, if you are not able to buy it from that link, you will need to contact Amazon since we don’t control the actual distribution of the app, Amazon does.

Wonderful.
If there are no running costs, after the initial purchase, I'll be more than happy.
Thanks!
