iCamSource (OSX) crashes with more than 2 sources
« on: February 28, 2013, 05:12:42 PM »
All of a sudden, ICS has started crashing again after years of use.  No crash logs.

I've deleted the plist file and started over.  I can have any combination of 2 cameras, but as soon as I add a third, it crashes.  It has successfully displayed 6 cameras in the pat, but now just doesn't work.  Nothing changed, so I'm baffled.

Please advise.  Thanks

Open the Console located in your Applications/Utilities folder and search for iCamSource to see if there are any system messages related to it closing down. If there are, please send them to support@skjm.com. Also, please reference this forum post and your user name in your email.

There are no messages in console and no crash logs.  The app just disappears.

What types of cameras are you using, USB wecbams or network IP cameras? Does the iCamSource crash when you click the Start button, or when you are attempting to add cameras by clicking the "+" button?

these are all ip cameras.  the behavior has slightly changed now.  even with only two cameras active, the icamsource app will just randomly die.  once it dies, it will never restart.  i have to manually remove and recreate the plist, which is absurd!

as i said, i have used this product for years without issue.  now it won't stay up at all with the same exact configuration - no new cameras, no new network equipment/config, etc.

frustrating and baffling.

That is odd. We have not heard of an issue where the iCamSource will not launch until the plist is deleted.

Do you have the "Auto Start" checkbox checked? If so, try unchecking it when running it so that it doesn't try to connect to the cameras when you initially launch the iCamSource.

If you have multiple IP cameras the issue may be high CPU usage if the frame rate for the IP cameras is set to the default of 30 or 15 frames per second. If you try changing the frame rate setting in the IP camera's settings to between 2 and 5 frames per second then hopefully things will be more stable.

What brand & models are the cameras?

even with auto-start disabled, the app starts and dies immediately (Broken pipe: 13) --- it is trying to connect to your servers.  It apparently has NOTHING to do with the cameras.

I notice when i enable my VPN, it will connect and stay up just fine.  With VPN disabled, it dies immediately.

Something new to consider.

I searched for VPN on the forums and found these 2 links, which could help...or point in the right direction.

When you launch the iCamSource without the Auto Start checkbox checked and without clicking the Start button it shouldn't yet have tried to connect to our servers or do anything else network-related.

The fact that it crashes and doesn't generate any crash logs is very strange as well.

Does it crash when you have the VPN off and you click the Start button (and no Auto-Start checked)? Or does it just crash when you launch it?
