ICAM : Using a hub for Multi cams
« on: August 15, 2012, 12:59:30 PM »
Has anyone been successful in using a hub to connect multiple cameras via USB to their laptop? I'm testing out some cameras and I have 3 connected directly to the laptop w/o using the hub and they work fine. When I connect them to the hub and then to the laptop I only get the camera thats built in to the laptop, the others are blank/black screens. Not sure if I'm using the wrong hub, or it just won't work this way. Everything I am using is rated for USB 2.0. Any thoughts or known hubs that worked, I would appreciate it.

It's a power issue, if I remember correctly. The cameras require enough power to work. Is your hub powered (plugged into the wall)? Having a powered hub might allow them to work.

Did not think of that. I'll get a powered Hub and try it out and let everyone know. Thanks.

I tried a powered USB hub when I first started using Icamsource and had issues. I am now using a 33' active USB extension to use a webcam at a window.

EDIT: Cable is made by Manhattan and is 33'.
