Streaming webcam?
« on: December 17, 2008, 07:56:06 PM »
Ok, so I lately downloaded another webcam app from the app store, only dissapointed to see the webcam video wasnt really a video at all, it was just taking a picture every few seconds. Is this webcam the same? Does it take a picture every second, or does it work just like a live streaming webcast over the internet would?

Video is really just a series of images, so what you're probably interested in is the frames-per-second (fps) or frame-rate of the video.

When connected via WiFi, iCam can deliver up to about 15 fps. (Standard NTSC television is 30 fps.) When connected via 3G or EDGE, however, the frame rate is considerably lower. We had to limit the frame rate of the thumbnail view to around 1 fps and the frame rate of the full-screen view to around 1/2 fps (or about one frame every 2 seconds) to fall within the bandwidth constraints imposed by Apple and AT&T.

I hope that answers your question. :)
