Surveling my Home using office PC as Server
« on: February 03, 2011, 06:18:20 AM »
Hello everyone, I'm writing from Italy so be patient with my bad english.
I'm testing this awesome APP using the built in cam on my notebook and I really love it.
I'm also plenning to buy 2 or 3 wireless IP cam to link at my wireless home router.
What I don't like is to keep a PC 24/7 running the server so I was wondering if I can

- Setup my IP camera on my home router
- Get a link
- Use my Office PC (who can't stay always ON) as server
- Get the stream and push notification on my iDevice

I really suck in networking so, maybe, I'm just following a wrong idea.
Before buy the IP cameras, I'd like to have an opinion.

Also, talking about cameras, I found a good deal on this model on eBay
http://cgi.ebay.it/TELECAMERA-IP-CAMERA-INFRAROSSI-WIRELESS-WIFI-WI-FI-CAM-/330506406366?pt=Telecamere_da_sorveglianza&hash=item4cf3b789de

Will it be compatible?

Thank you so much

BB

The iCamSource can be running on a computer that is connected to a different network as the IP camera as long as you have forwarded the appropriate port in your IP camera's network so that it is able to be connected to. Basically, if you can connect to the camera from your office computer's web browser, you should be able to connect to it using the iCamSource.

Once the camera is being monitored by the iCamSource you should then be able to connect to it using iCam on your iDevice.

As for the network IP camera, it looks like it supports MJPEG video streaming, so it should be compatible.
