icam source update not working
« on: January 18, 2011, 06:15:20 AM »
Hello,
I have a Macbook  Pro, w/ OS 10.6.6, had iCam Source installed, it worked, then today I recieved an alert from iCam Source that there was an update, so I downloaded & installed. Now it wont work at all !   I double click on the icon to open it, and nothing happens. Don't see the viewer window or anything.  Icon for iCamSource doesnt show in the Dock.

I Tried redownloaded & reinstalling, no difference.  The iCam app on my iPhone wont connect either.   I just get the spinning thing, black view window with 4 panes but no images.

I know my network camera is working.  I can view it in a Safari window & connect directly to it's IP address & login to the camera.

Even tried to access the camera from the website (iCamWeb) but says it can't connect.

Really disappointed with iCam & iCamSource, 4.99 spent for nothing.  Can't even access the camera outside of my home wifi network unless i have my macbook pro & icamsource running.  Thought I would be able to access it via my iphone.

The iCamSource runs with an icon in the menu bar (Mac OS X) or system tray (Windows) near the clock. If you click on the iCamSource icon, you should be able to then show the iCamSource Preferences window as well as quit the application. - http://skjm.com/icam/help/troubleshooting.php#icamsource

Do you see the iCamSource icon near the clock when you launch the iCamSource application?

iCam does currently only connect to the iCamSource running on your computer. It is the iCamSource that allows most users to connect from outside of their local network without having to configure port forwarding in their router. It is also the iCamSource that monitors the camera's video stream to send push notifications and record motion events whenever motion is detected.

Hi, thanks, yes, I can see the icamsource icon in the menu bar. Opened up preferences and saw text stating "JPEG data not found" and that it wasn't connecting to my Airlink camera. Tried a good url and didn't work. Went to the icam website and saw that there were alternative URLs that could be used so I plugged one in and it was working finally......but I still wish there was a way the icam iphone app would allow me to connect to the camera without needing the icamsource on my macbook pro running.

There are other apps out there that allow you to do that, but you would need to configure port forwarding in your router and know what your camera's external IP address is or use a dynamic IP service when outside of your network.

But if you're doing all of that then you can also just connect directly to your camera's MJPEG URL using Mobile Safari on your iPhone and view the video stream without even using an app.

Tried connecting to the camera via Safari on my iphone, and I can login, see the webpage for the camera, which has various controls,
but there's no video/images, it's a big white box where the video image should be.

Do you think it's a bandwith issue on the iphone / AT&T ?

It's because the camera uses a Java applet to display the image in the webpage, and mobile Safari doesn't support Java.

If you open the MJPEG URL link that you use with the iCamSource (the link to the raw video stream) in Mobile Safari that should work. (The http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/cgi/mjpg/mjpg.cgi URL.) If you have an older firmware version installed on your camera that only supports the http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/cgi/mjpg/mjpeg.cgi URL (mjpg.cgi vs mjpeg.cgi) it won't work because AirLink includes some header information ahead of the image data that confuses web browsers. Newer firmware versions also support the first URL that doesn't include the header info.
