Can't start 2 instances of icamsource
« on: November 20, 2010, 03:38:15 PM »
I am trying to start 2 instances of icamsource so I can control 2 cameras but the second instance doesn't start. No error, nothing happens when I click on the desktop icon.
Windows Vista Home Basic SP2

I found out how to add the second camera by hitting the + but when I try to start that camera icamsource crashes.
First camera is USB and second camera is built-in. Doesn't matter if first camera is started or not, when I try to start camera2 icamsource crashes.

Do you only have 2 cameras in your Cameras list of the iCamSource? Do you have the latest drivers installed for both of your webcams? If you remove all but one camera from your Cameras list and set it to be the Built-In webcam does it still crash when you click the Start button?

Yes

Yes

No - If I only have one camera in the list Icam works. It doesn't matter which
camera is listed, if it is the only camera it works. If I add a second camera ICam
crashes when I try to start the first camera even though the second camera isn't started.
Just having a second camera in the list causes ICam to crash.

Can you e-mail 2 screenshots of your iCamSource Preferences window (one selecting each camera from the Cameras list to see its settings) to support@skjm.com? Please reference this forum post in your e-mail.

Is your USB webcam plugged directly into the computer and not into a USB hub or extension cable?

My USB webcam is plugged directly in to the laptop. No USB hub or extension cable used.
E-mail with screen shots has been sent to support.

Thank you for the screenshots.

If you disable motion detection (unchecking the Enable Motion Detection checkbox under the Motion Detection tab) on both cameras does the iCamSource still crash when you click the Start button? What about if you also select "No Audio" in the Audio drop-down boxes?

If you uninstall version 2.1.6 and install the previous version (1.4.2.6 also available from our website) and run two instances, selecting one camera in each one does the iCamSource still crash?

I disabled motion detection on both cameras and the program still crashed. I uninstalled version 2.1.6 (I had to delete the directory after doing the uninstall) and installed 1.4.2.6 and started 2 instances. The program didn't crash. I checked on my IPhone and both cameras are working. Thanks a lot for the help. Great support guys!
Do me a favor and send me an e-mail if you fix the problem in version 2.1.6. It's always nice to have the latest version.
Thanks again.

Do you know if 2.1.5 has the same crashing issue as 2.1.6? - http://skjm.com/icam/iCamSetup2.1.5.exe

A Windows update that installed new drivers has disabled my internal camera. As soon as I get the camera working again I will test 2.1.5 and let you know.

I have this same problem on a mac.  I finally got my two eyetoy cams to show up by using an older version of macam but now it crashes right after clicking start.

aen333 - If iCamSource is crashing, there should be crash logs.

The crash logs would be in:

/Users/<Your Username>/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/iCamSource_<date_time>.crash.log

or in:

/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/iCamSource_<date_time>.crash.log

If you have Mac OS 10.6.3+, I think they moved the crash logs to  /Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports  or  /Users/<Your Username>/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports

If you find crash logs, please email the most recent one to support@skjm.com.  Please refer to this forum thread in your email.

I tried 2.1.5 and it still crashed under the same conditions.
Any hope for a fix?

Also, I'm on W7.  There's no "Library" folder in my users\username directory, so I'm not sure where the crash dump is.
