New to Forum: questions about icam
« on: May 29, 2013, 12:12:13 PM »
Dear Friends. I just downloaded the icam app and I have several questions. If you have time, would you please help and/or point me to the correct thread that answers my questions?:

1. Is it possible see a wireless webcam from my phone without the computer software running? For example, suppose I was in the office and I had a outdoor wireless webcam in the front of my house. Could I just pop open my iphone and see who is at the front door?

2. The program on my PC crashes. I downloaded version 2.5 but it seems to freeze up after I log out of the app on my iphone. When I restart the computer everything is okay. Is there a better solution?

3. Is it difficult to set up the wireless webcam option with multiple cams? Do people really use this app to monitor their home or buisiness?

4. Many times the app doesn't work and says it doesn't recogize the username and password. But sometimes it works fine. Any quick fixes?

Thanks for your help!! I look forward to hearing from you all! Cheers

1. The option to bypass iCamSource on the computer has been requested in the past and is currently on our list of potential features to implement in the future.

2. Please make sure that you are running the latest version of iCamSource (2.6) available on our Support Pages here: http://skjm.com/icam/support.php

If iCam continues to crash, is your webcam plugged into a USB hub or extension cable? If so, please try plugging it directly into the computer.

Make sure that Windows is fully updated through Windows Update and that you have the latest drivers installed for your webcam.

Also, please make sure there aren't any other video capture programs (such as Skype) running. They might be fighting iCamSource for access to the camera.

3.Yes, you can add up to 16 webcams or network IP cameras from a single computer, although your computer's hardware limitations (USB bus, CPU, memory) may further limit that number.

To add a camera, click on the + button underneath the cameras pane (for a screenshot go to http://skjm.com/icam/help/#setup) and follow the instructions below:

For USB, FireWire, or Built-In webcams, you should be able to make your choice from the Audio and Video drop-down lists underneath the USB / FireWire / Built-In tab.

If you add a stand-alone network IP camera, you first need to find the correct MJPEG or JPEG URL for your camera. Enter it along with your camera's Login and Password (if any) into the iCamSource.

More detailed instructions are available at our Getting Started pages: http://skjm.com/icam/help/#setup

If you have any other issues or questions, please let me know.

4. Do you see the words "Connecting …" or "Connected to Server" in the iCamSource Preferences window title when you click the Start button? - http://skjm.com/icam/help/troubleshooting.php#icam1
