Audio intermittent

Hi, just bought iCam the other day, love it!

only problem is that the audio sometimes works, sometimes does not. When it works its fine but other times I connect on the iphone 4 (4.2.1 firmware, tested over 3G and wifi) and just get a really loud hiss, like a tv not tuned in to a channel but the video still works. If I shutdown the pc software and iphone software and restart, it appears to fix it. Very annoying, is this issue known?

I have nothing else running, just the icam pc software and the mic is on the webcam and this is working fine when tested so it look like its the pc software or the iphone app.

iCam doesn't do any processing that would generate sounds on it's own. Are there any other audio capture programs that are running? Is the webcam plugged into a USB hub or extension cable?

nope, nothing else running, webcam is plugged into usb port, no extension cable. Its very strange, sometimes it works, sometimes you just hear the loud hissing. Ill see if I can figure out the steps to reproduce it.

I think I found out what is causing the problem....

If you are recording motion and you view the events on the iphone and then delete them, when you go back to the camera view the audio is replaced by the hiss and you have to restart the pc software to get the audio back.

Let me know if you can see this too, hope that helps.

scrap my previous report..... the hiss is back regardless of motion settings

I was able to get rid of it by double clicking on the iCam icon in the windows status bar..... I had the app running on my iphone with the audio hiss and when I maximized the software on the pc by double clicking the icon, the audio immediately came back on the iphone.

I also noticed that switching between the tabs in the desktop software intermittently causes the hiss to come and go.

I was playing around with audio settings and noticed that if I turn off the microphone boost option in audio settings the hiss disappears and you can hear audio but there is bad crackling interference on the audio and the audio is VERY loud. When the interference disappears, the audio seems to stabilize and reduces to a normal volume.

So it looks like with the mic boost on, the processed audio is so loud that it just becomes noise intermittently.

with mic boost off, the processed audio has interference but its not bad enough to become just noise, intermittently.

It appears to be some kind of processing audio issue I think but you say you do no audio processing at all. Not sure what to try next.

Do you have the "Android" option enabled (next to the Audio drop down list)?  That option causes iCamSource to capture a lower quality audio sample from the microphone?

FYI....

I was able to resolve this issue recently by selecting android even though it running on an iPhone. With android ticked the sound is fine but when not ticked the audio is intermittently nosily loud as previously explained.

 ???

Android audio is going to be lower-quality than iPhone audio.

If you run version 2.2.3 from the support page (not the latest beta). Are you able to hear audio when the Android checkbox is unchecked?
