Stefan ... just to let you know that I'm doing some longterm background tests on my PC to try and see exactly where the issue is. As most people dont seem to be seeing this issue - I'm working on the assumption that it might be specific to my system.

I'll also try this on a friends PC to see if I can duplicate.

I'm using PerfMon as my main logging tool - along with Task Manager (to see the active processes). I can send you traces if you give me your email address.

This will all take a little while due to other commitments. I will let you know the results either way.

Nope ... iCamSource is by far the biggest CPU ... System next (25% of iCamSource) ... then audiodg (10% of iCamSource).

Total = 100%

I saw that slider - but it's not obvious how it affects bandwidth.

I thought that the better framerate might be at a higher FPS so that the same bandwidth is used as the better quality at lower FPS.

Having two sliders would seporate these issues and allow more control.

Just a thought.

The computer CPU goes to 100% ... ICamSource is the majority of that with the System process next (25% if iCanSource). Nothing else is anywhere close. I've turned everything else off so it's definately iCamSource.

When "Stopped" nothing happens and when ICamSource is not running then nothing happens (obviously).

It does it with the USB camera, the built in camera and the URL you provided.

However, the behaviour does change.

For the USB and built in ... I get four periods of 100% CPU per hour - each lasting 7-8 minutes. For the URL I get two periods per hour each lasting 7 minutes. They all then repeat this behavior.

iCam Support / Feature Request: Seporate FPS and Quality Controls
« on: March 25, 2011, 07:01:42 AM »
Might be worth having seporate controls for the frame rate and the image quality - as i can see different people wanting different settings. Eg...

- High FPS and High Quality for those with good bandwidth
- Low FPS and High Quality when used for security (so can see faces etc)
- High FPS and Low Quality for video chats etc
- Low FPS and Low Quality for those with very limited bandwidth.

This would give great control over bandwidth, CPU, storage, etc.

Just a thought.

I dont seem to be able to insert an image  :-[ so cant show you the trace.

Anyway, I ran it this morning...
   - no Kaspersky or FireFox
   - no movement and no iPhone connection
   - paper over the lens to avoid movement
   - sound on

It runs for 15 minutes at 20% then peaks for 7 minutes, comes back down for 8 and then peaks for 7 and then comes down and repeats this 15 minute cycle.

There are no other apps that show any CPU ... the System process shows about 25% of the CPU of iCamSource and follows the same pattern. The audiodg process shows around 10% of the CPU of iCamSource and follows the same pattern.

The whole machine goes to 100% with the iCamSource process doing 80-90% of that.

The machine is doing nothing much else.

I have Kaspersky installed - and that might be having an affect. I'll try without tomorrow - when I'm back at home.

Did you try resetting your iCamSource registry settings that I mentioned in this thread? - http://skjm.com/forum/index.php?topic=1759.msg7555#msg7555

Also, what are the specs (processor, memory, etc.) of the computer you are using?

I did the registry thing ... and it didn't help.

The machine is a Dell M1330 ... Inet Core Duo T9300 @ 2.50 GHz ... 4GB RAM ... 640GB disk ... Windows 7 SP1 32bit.

Also, this happens with or without motion detection being on. I've tried turning the sound off ... but it still goes to 100% CPU.

Let me know if there is anything else I can try ... this looks like a great app and I'd like to help get this sorted.

Nope ... the built in "Laptop Integrated Webcam" and the USB "Logitech HD Webcam C510".

I get the same when using either the built in one or the USB one. The BUilt in one attaches to the Dell camera software and the Logitech attaches to the Logitech software (obiviously).

The switch from 20% to 100% CPU happens after a few minutes and without me ever attaching to the camera from my iPhone (it stops as soon as i stop the session in the app). It's very predictable and make the laptop usless.

Exactly the same happens to me when changing the motion detection settings ... I'm using version 2.2.1 on Windows 7 with a Logitech C510 USB camera.

I have the same deal ... starts at around 15% CPU on quite a powerful laptop with just one camera and no motion detection. Then suddenly it goes upto 60% to 80% and sometimes even more.

Is it possible for me to drop the frame rate somehow? I know I can do this using the quality slider - but is there another way. I presume this would drop the CPU.

I'm using version 2.2.1 on Windows 7 with a Logitech C510 USB camera.
