Hmmmm...... Not quite there yet.  The rouge IP camera has dropped off the network again. There is a chance that it's just a bit too far from the WiFi router, so I'll need to reposition it and do a bit more testing.

I've had an intermittent problem with one of my IP cams, but I think that I may have found the issue.

The scenario is that I have 3 PC's on my home network plus an Apple Airport Express and Apple TV2 (both on the WiFi network).  One of the PC's - actually an eeePC Netbook - is on all the time running iCam Source.  I've got 2 WiFi IP cams on the network, on ports 80 and 81 and everything works faultlessly when I'm at home. However, when I'm away, the camera on port 80 fails regularly. I think that I've tied this failure down to when another PC starts up with Skype set to auto run. I believe that Skype also uses port 80.

Using remote access (LogMeIn) I've changed the port from 80 to 82 and so far the camera is behaving.  Testing continues, but I'm hoping that I've sorted this out.

Still very impressed with iCam. It works very well with the eeePC and its 2 USB webcams and the 2 IP cams. Remote viewing is via iPad and iPhone 4 both running iOS 4.2.

I thought that I could see the Edimax from outside my Network - that is over the Internet - but that wasn't the case.  Spent a day chasing definitions of the various IP types to try to access the cam, and finally realised that I needed to set up the Edimax Gateway IP address to the IP address on my Belkin router.  It seem blindingly obvious now, but it was all a bit confusing for a while 

I'm sure that this is fairly basic stuff for many people, but here is a summary of what I now understand:

Belkin Router

WAN IP: xxxx.xxxx.xxxx.62 - This is the public IP address that I need to use to view the IP camera via the Internet
IP: xxxx.xxxx.2.1 - This is the address I use to access the router from within my Network
Default Gateway: xxxx.xxxx.xxxx.xxxx - this is my ISP provided address, set automatically by the router
DNS Address: xxxx.xxxx.xxxx.xxxx - again, set automatically by the router as far as I can make out


Edimax Camera

IP: xxx.xxx.2.13 - set manually by me as a static IP address using the Edimax setup utility via IE
Gateway: xxxx.xxxx.2.1 - THIS IS WHERE I WAS HAVING PROBLEMS - now set to the router IP address above xxxx.xxxx.2.1
Primary DNS: xxxx.xxxx.xxxx.xxxx - I'm not using this as far as I'm aware, as I'm just using the numerical IP address to access the camera

So, in summary, I now understand that I have to tell the camera to look at the router and then when I use the WAN IP address from outside my Network, it all works like a charm.  Sorry if this is old news to many of you, but it might help somebody out there.  I've been using LogMeIn free to access my iCam netbook.  This allows me to remotely access the router and the cam setup utilities via IE just as if I was sitting in front of the Netbook - brilliant

Network / IP Camera Compatibility / Edimax IC-1510Wg works OK with iCam

I picked up an Edimax IC-1510Wg WiFi IP cam at Maplin here in the UK yesterday.  It was really easy to set up and it works a treat with iCam.  I did have a minor snag in that I couldn't actually view the camera video directly using IE or Firefox, but I could see it in the iCam preferences window and in the Edimax viewer program (an ActiveX issue I believe).  My setup now consists of an eeePC 901 on my WiFi network with 2 USB webcams, and the Edimax IC-1510Wg.

The Edimax camera replaces an old Hawking HNC290G that had a mind of its own and would constantly crash - not at iCam problem, it used to lock up using the Hawking monitoring software!  The Edimax was GBP79, but I've seen it a little cheaper on Ebay so I might get another one to provide more coverage.  The Edimax also works with other monitoring software such as the iPhone Cam Viewer.  I'd love to be able to use it with iSpy, but there isn't any way to add your own cameras.

I'm fairly certain that the network cabled version (IC-1510) would work OK with iCam too, as it looks to be identical minus the WiFi option.

A desktop version of iCam with access to the motion capture pictures would be excellent.

I'd just like to say how pleased I am with iCam running on my iPhone and iPod - it's easily the best app of this type that I've used.  The motion capture is a killer function and works very well with my 2 USB webcams attached to an early eeePC laptop with a 20Gb solid state HD.  The eeePC is a very minimal Netbook on my home WiFi, but it does just what I need.  I use LogMeIn Ignition on the iPhone/iPad to access the iCam settings remotely.

All this just to make sure that the cat is OK while I'm away!

I had issues with this new version too.

I retyped the user name and password in both iCamSource and iCam on the iPhone/iPad and the connection was restored.

Stefan, I've run a 60-second refresh webpage with the HNC290G jpg image, and it works fine until it stops working!  Sometimes it would run for days and sometimes only for minutes.  I've given up on the cam for the time being as I can get what I need from the 2 USB cams.  I wouldn't worry about this unless you get other reports that are similar.  Almost certainly this is a problem with the Hawking cam and not iCamSource.

iCam Support / Motion Detection being switched on for all cams at same time?

Using iCamSource 2.1.1 with Win XP and iCam V3 on the iPhone and iPad.

When I activate Motion Detection via iCam, it is being switched on for both my USB webcams.  I'm sure that this was switched independently before.  For example, Motion Detection is off for both cams, I switch in on for the one watching the cat flap for testing and I end up with 30 minutes motion capture of me having lunch on the kitchen cam - not exactly compulsive viewing

Running 2 x USB webcams using iCamSource in Win XP on an eeePC Netbook 2.1.1 and motion recording is working fine for me.

jpg - as recommended by your help, it's a Hawking HNC290G

I tried mjpeg too, but the picture doesn't change.

Edit:  I wouldn't loose too much sleep over my HNC290G issues - the camera is flaky and I've had loads of problems with it in the past.  It isn't supported by Hawking any more either!  I seems to have a mind of its own!

Most Netbooks have an option to see the screen at a 'normal' size - either by scrolling the screen up and down or by compressing the normal screen into the Netbook screen.  Right click on the windows desktop and select Graphics Properties or similar.

I'm having the same issue with my Netbooks, so I'd appreciate a properties box that is shorter too :-)

I'm having a similar problem with Windows and a WiFi camera.

I can see the camera live using the Windows interface,  but iCamSource is seeing an old jpg picture.  I've changed the local IP address of the WiFi camera to try to give iCamSource a 'kick', but I still can't get a live picture.

My 2 USB cams are working fine over WiFi and 3G

Might be a silly question, but have you ticked the "Enable Motion Detection" in the Motion Detection tab in iCamSource?

This is a separate option to the Record Motion Events setting and is optional for each camera you have set up in iCamSource.  Note that you can't access "Enable Motion Detection" from iCam, only in iCamSource.

Have you tried entering the password again in iCamSource, then entering it again in iCam?

Works fine for me when I do this - on both the iPhone and iPad
