Low framerate with gen 1 iPad on local WiFi
« on: October 02, 2012, 03:02:30 PM »
I get very low framerate on an iPad 1 over wifi. Adjusting the slider towards "better frame rate" does not improve the framerate above 1 fps. Adjusting it towards image quality gets me about 2 fps.

When connecting via iCamWeb on the same laptop which is streaming the cams (and using the &fps=5 switch), I get about 3-4fps. CPU usage on the laptop is 15-20% from icamsource.exe. The laptop has an Intel i5 in it.

I am using the latest versions of both iCam for the iPad and iCamSource (downloaded today).

If you're using an IP camera, you can try changing the fps in the camera's settings page to 5fps (vs. the 30 or so that it's probably set to by default). That will reduce the processing that icamsource has to do...could improve your overall frame rate. Also, if possible, make sure the image resolution of the camera is set to 640x480. Even if it doesn't fix the framerate issue on the iPad (which I'm sure the SKJM guys will help you get fixed), the above changes should reduce the processing load on your laptop running icamsource. 15-20% seems high for one camera...at least if it's an IP camera. USB cameras require more processing, I think...and audio adds to the processing demand, as well.

I am running a USB camera and the onboard laptop camera. I did purchase the Android app last night, and the framerate on it is much more fluid.

I will mess with camera resolution to tweak on the CPU usage, but my number one issue is the low iPad frame rate. Audio is disabled.
