internet connection required for iCam?
« on: June 11, 2012, 06:47:07 AM »
I am trying to run iCam using a PC and an Android phone connected to a wireless router. I would like to run this in a standalone environment with no internet connection. Everything works fine if I have have the router connected to the internet. When I disconnect it, the Android app hands on startup and gives the source connection error.

Is the Android app trying to ping your servers on startup? Why? Is there some way to disable this behavior so we can run with a local network?

They use a broker server to connect your phone and computer to each other (your video/audio feeds do not pass through their broker server). Myself and a few other users have requested the ability to type in static IP addresses or dynamic DNS info to allow for direct connections. I dont think many users have enough networking experience to manually set this up, so I doubt this feature will be available anytime soon (if ever). Besides, if you want to be notified of motion and/or you want montion event images to be backed up offsite, your computer will need to be connected to the Internet.

Thanks for the quick response! Guess it's time to look for an alternative.
