Image resolution > 640x480?

I have been using iCam for a while now with a Logitech Webcam Pro 9000.

All works well except one thing - I can only get images with low quality (640x480 pixels). Using the software provided by Logitech I can get 2MP images.

Is it possible to get 2MP images from iCam?

I have the "quality" slider adjusted for "better image quality".

Apple limits it to 640 x 480 for bandwidth purposes...and limits the framerate too.

Yes I can understand there are limits for the livefeed to my phone.

But this is iCamSource putting images in my Dropbox folder. There should not need to be any kind of restrictions there?

I know...kinda sucks. icamsource has to resize the images in order to transmit them...unfortunately, it saves the images after resizing them and not before. I think a user recently suggested a new feature, which was to allow us to save images in the native resolution...so before being resized for transmit. I second that suggestion...and I'm pretty sure you will second it as well. Luckily, the SKJM developers are constantly improving their product and they get their new features from user suggestions. It seems like, at least on the surface, that this would be pretty easy to do as far as the programming goes. But then again, I'm not a programmer.

The resolution restriction is only on Edge/3G, right?

There shouldn't be a resolution restriction over WiFi.

It's comical how many times I have tried to pinch to zoom when viewing a cam on iCam...

I save images to my Dropbox folder and view them on the computer at work, so there is no 3G/Edge/Wifi/... at all, just iCamSource saving an image on my local harddrive.

Still, only 640x480 :-(

The above was a suggestion...it hasn't been implemented yet. Hopefully they'll incorporate it into the next update. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

I'd like to re-request this.  It's a shame that I purposely bought higher MP camera and then realized that can't utilize the resolution.  640 x 480 saved to my computer is not enough to get a good pic of a perp.

I was about to post a thread about this same issue, and this explains why my images are so dang blurry!

I guess I need to have some secondary solution recording motion events, aside from iCamSource, until this is changed. What applications are good for recording events at full res, and/or just recording video at full time?

My IP cameras have native motion detection in their web-based settings pages, and can email the images to you. I might just give this feature a try, too.

I was about to post a thread about this same issue, and this explains why my images are so dang blurry!

If the images are "blurry" you can try sliding the image quality / framerate slider to Better Image Quality instead of Better Frame Rate. That will improve the JPEG compression quality of the images.

I have done that. It's maxed out high quality on the slider.

When opening the URL for the cameras on my browser at home it looks really crisp and clear. The iCam app shows the images from motion events. I saved one to the camera roll and I find that it's only 427x320.

The camera I am using is set to SXVGA (1280x960) so that's ideal, but at this point, now that I know the iCam app is only delivering feeds at 427x320, I would be happy just to get my "money's worth" 640x480". Wonder if I'm doing anything wrong...

What is the brand / model of your camera, and what URL are you using?

For network cameras it should just use whatever resolution image the camera sends it, based on the camera's settings and the URL.

I'm using two Edimax IC-3015WN cameras.

Interestingly, when I open the folder where motion events are recorded on my Mac, they're a full 1280x960. So I know the full-res images are getting there, but still 427x320 (0.1MP) images are being sent to my iPhone in iCam.

Worst-case I can cook up some kind of script to email the full-res images when they arrive on the Mac, or something...
