Source Connection Error - Special Case
« on: July 19, 2009, 08:41:04 PM »
Hi my case is rather curious.

I have 2 cams setup. One at home and one at office. Home webcam runs on my Mac Mini via Ethernet. Office cam runs on Vista also via Ethernet.

I can see fine with the Home cam via 3G or at under home's WiFi BUT not under HotSpots or at my friend's home WiFi.

I cannot see anything with the Office Cam under 3G - it says Source Connection Error - One or more of the iCamSources returned by the iCam Broker Server could not be connected to.

However I can see fine under my office's WiFi network.

I've tried to set up Port Forwarding at my office's router, it's a D-Link, so I can't set a range, but only a specific port, so I chose UDP 12050/12050. Still it doesn't work.

So again, when I'm under my office's WiFi, I can see my office's cam AND NOT my home CAM.
But when I'm out using 3G, I can see my home CAM and NOT my office CAM.

Please help....

You can reach me at saint_pako@hotmail.com Thanks a million!!!

Sorry, one more thing.

When I'm under a WiFi outside of my home, ie. Office's Wifi, and my home Cam doesn't respond - the message also say (same as when I want to connect to office CAM under 3G)

Source Connection Error - One or more of the iCamSources returned by the iCam Broker Server could not be connected to.

Don't know if that helps.

So to make it simple:
I have 2 problems:

(1) Home Cam only works under 3G or Home WiFi
(2) Office Cam only works under Office WiFi

So, it's kinda funny, because I've never ONCE seen both Cam at the same time....hahahaha

The Source Connection Error is usually caused by a firewall or router configuration issue.  Let's focus on the office computer first.  I can troubleshoot the problem if I get your office computer's IP address.  Please go to http://whatismyip.com in your office computer's web browser and email your office computer's IP address to support@skjm.com.  Please refer to this forum thread in your email.

Thanks Jay!! However, I've just tried your suggestion and it didn't work. I've set 5 entries, each pointing to my terminal's IP address, and using UDP with 12001 as both personal and public port. I did the same for 12002, 12003, 12004, 12005. But it resulted with the UDP blocking Broker Server error. I then tried editing to TCP+UDP for all five and that didn't work. But the good thing is that I tried to put my terminal in DMZ mode, and it worked perfectly.

Of course I don't want to continue expose my terminal to DMZ (BTW, is there any risk in doing so? I mean I have NIS installed on my terminal) So I usually turn on the DMZ when I need to use the iCam service, which is really inconvenient. However, at least I know it's my D-Link DI-504 Router that's causing all the problem.

The second problem I talked about, about not being able to access the Home Cam under WiFi, I found out that it's not my Home Network that's the problem. I tried using iCam under another WiFi network and it worked!!

But it's really wierd that I can't access my home cam in my office, not just WiFi, I tried the iCamWeb using my Desktop via ethernet, and it also says Source Connection Error (One or more of the iCamSources returned by the iCam Broker Server could not be connected to). I mean what could be a reason for my office network blocking INCOMING data???

Could it be that I am using the D-Link Router as the PPPoE connection and then another Wireless Router (Linksys) using DHCP as a Wireless AP. But I guess that could only explain the problem under WiFi, but I can't even see it under my desktop??

Any clue, guys??

The Broker Connection Error means that your iPhone wasn't able to connect to the Broker Server, and usually doesn't have much to do with router configuration.  Please try turning off DMZ mode to see if the port forwarding is working.  The fact that it works in DMZ mode indicates that port forwarding should work if it's configured correctly.

If it's still not working for you when you turn off DMZ mode, please email a screenshot of your router's port forwarding settings to support@skjm.com.

Regarding your office network, if the iPhone and the computer are connected to different routers in the local network, they won't be able to communicate with each other unless the secondary router (the router not connected to the modem) is in Bridge mode.  If you need help with that, please send an email to support@skjm.com with the the exact models of both routers.

Thanks a lot for the help, I was so frustrated with the D-Link router, I went out and bought a Linksys, now it works like a charm.

Thanks Jay!!!

Great job.
