Web cam without a computer
« on: May 03, 2011, 07:41:17 PM »
I am a newbie and didn't quite know how to search the forum for an answer.
Can I buy and set up a remote wifi web cam and NOT use my computer?
Love icam so far but would be great if I could use it in several places where I don't leave a computer.
IPad 2 & iPhone 4 iOS 4.3 user.
Thanks in advance.

No, the iCamSource program does need to be running on your computer in order for iCam on your phone to connect to it. This is due to the firewall/NAT piercing techniques used by iCam. Also, the motion detection features of iCam (push notifications and motion recording) require iCamSource to be running in order to perform the motion detection processing.

Yes, you can add add up to 16 webcams or network IP cameras from a single computer, although your computer's hardware limitations (USB bus, CPU, memory) may further limit that number.

To add a camera, click on the + button underneath the cameras pane (for a screenshot go to http://skjm.com/icam/help/#setup) and follow the instructions below:

For USB, FireWire, or Built-In webcams, you should be able to make your choice from the Audio and Video drop-down lists underneath the USB / FireWire / Built-In tab.

If you add a stand-alone network IP camera, you first need to find the correct MJPEG or JPEG URL for your camera. Enter it along with your camera's Login and Password (if any) into the iCamSource.

More detailed instructions are available on our Getting Started pages: http://skjm.com/icam/help/#setup
