Feature Request: Seporate FPS and Quality Controls
« on: March 25, 2011, 07:01:42 AM »
Might be worth having seporate controls for the frame rate and the image quality - as i can see different people wanting different settings. Eg...

- High FPS and High Quality for those with good bandwidth
- Low FPS and High Quality when used for security (so can see faces etc)
- High FPS and Low Quality for video chats etc
- Low FPS and Low Quality for those with very limited bandwidth.

This would give great control over bandwidth, CPU, storage, etc.

Just a thought.

Thanks for the suggestion. iCamSource has the "Better Frame Rate -> Better Image Quality" slider. It sets the level of image compression. These two things are tied together. In other words, when the images are heavily compressed they are smaller and use less bandwidth. So, the frame rate is higher, but the image quality is low since the images are so compressed. If the images aren't compressed very much, the image quality is good, but the frame rate is lower because each image is larger and uses more bandwidth.

I saw that slider - but it's not obvious how it affects bandwidth.

I thought that the better framerate might be at a higher FPS so that the same bandwidth is used as the better quality at lower FPS.

Having two sliders would seporate these issues and allow more control.

Just a thought.
