Connection to camera isn't working with iCamsource
« on: August 27, 2010, 11:41:46 AM »
I have 2 Airlink 500W cameras at home being used as baby room monitors. They were purchased separately but have the same firmware on them now. I've been trying to get the newer one recognized by iCamsource but no luck. I duplicated the URL from the working one to the other and I keep getting an MJPEG Error when's it's connecting. I ran your php script against the internal IP address of the new (and old) and it wants me to use the same URL that I was using with the older unit:
http://x.x.x.x:80/cgi/mjpg/mjpeg.cgi
I can use a browser and get into the camera fine and it view's live pics for me. Is there anything else someone recommends to get this working? The funny part is this is the more reliable of the 2. The older one I have to power cycle daily to be able to view the camera overnight.

Thanks anyone for any help. Much appreciated,
Brett

I use an the 500W at home as well, and that is the MJPEG URL I use. Are you using the internal IP address of the camera and not one that is translated from a dyndns name or anything? If you copy and paste the URL into your web browser do you see the video stream? Are you running the same version of the iCamSource for both cameras?

When I go to that address in Safari or Firefox it seems it wants to download the stream to a file so it appears to be working. I don't use any dyndns name, the exact URL I use is 192.168.1.242:80/cgi/mjpg/mjpeg.cgi so there's nothing translated. As for version of iCamSource I use, 1.4.2.5 Beta. I duplicated the app to be able to get access to this second camera (as I found in other forum posts to get a 2nd camera functional.)

What is the specific error message that you are seeing in the iCamSource when it is trying to connect to the camera?

Hello and sorry for the delay. Apparently reply notifications were going to my junk folder. Here's the error message I'm getting, retyped for you. I get this after I enter all the connection info in iCamSource and click "Start" to connect to the camera.

MJPEG Error

Have you tried using the full MJPEG URL, including the leading "http://" ?

http://192.168.1.242:80/cgi/mjpg/mjpeg.cgi

What is odd is that error message indicates that the iCamSource is unable to connect to the camera at that IP and port, although you are able to connect to it using Safari or Firefox.

Does using http://192.168.1.242/cgi/mjpg/mjpeg.cgi make any difference?

Hi Stefan,
Thanks again for the help on. It's certainly an odd one. I just tested your recommendation and no luck. I did go any retyped the passwords again for the browser log in as well as re-entering the iCamadmin password, just for fun but still no luck. I have also been testing each time with both "mjpeg" or "jpeg" as the camera option and neither does the trick.

Brett

Do you know if your camera is accessible from outside of your network? In other words, would you be able to forward TCP port 80 in your router to the camera in question?

If so, then I could try and connect to it with my iCamSource and hopefully see what the issue is.

I'll set that up and get back to you, possibly later today or it might have to wait until tonight. Can we take this offline for privacy reasons. Certainly use the fix but I'd rather remain a little anonymous.

Yes, of course. We can continue this via e-mail: support@skjm.com

Thanks. :)
