Motion Events : nothing recorded in it
« on: July 02, 2012, 06:27:41 AM »
Hi everybody,

I use :
iCam on my iphone 3GS (erased the previous version and uploaded it again today)
and iCamSource 2.4.4 beta on my iMac, using built-in iSight Camera

Works both in using either my wifi network at home in France (modem Freebox Revolution replacing the old Freebox V5 for a few weeks ) or using my 3g connection on my iPhone.

auto config router enabled
Motion detection enabled on iCamSource (just on the top of the video)

When I go to Motion events on the iPhone, nothing happens and it is blank
A refresh does not change anything.

I'm sad because I bought a Heden cam IP yesterday and I would like to set up this new camera outside(IPCam config could help me) and store those files, just in case ;)

When I'm far from my home, I can visualize easily my built-in camera but no records are possible.

Did I make a mistake somewhere?
How to enable recordings when I go far away ?
Could you help me please ?

Thanks a lot for your help  ;)

You can enable motion recording in icamsource, but it's much easier to enable it in the iCam app. Open iCam and bring up one of your cameras (by tapping on it). Then tap on the screen one more time to bring up a menu. In the top, left corner of your screen, make sure "Record Motion Events" is switched to on.

By the way, you should strongly consider using Dropbox (free) to backup your motion events offsite in case your computer is stolen (or in case you have connection problems). You'll need to register for/install Dropbox. Then, in icamsource, change the motion recording folder to be in your Dropbox folder. Or it might be a little different since you're on a Mac...but if you search for Dropbox on these forums, many people use it and discuss how to set it up properly.

Thanks for your taking the time to answer me.

I already enabled "record motion events" to on in iCam and I have still nothing in record motion events, that's why I send this message, probably there's a tip I don't know ?

Thanks for your help again ;)

Have you had any motion events for sure? If you have sensitivity turned down, it will require significant motion to result in recording. Also, are you sure your camera hasn't froze up? Try walking in front of the camera while viewing on your iCam app and see if the picture is being updated. If neither of those are the problem, there's a folder that they recommend deleting on the Mac which will reset the icamsource settings...allowing you to start over from scratch. I think it's the preferences folder, and it might be hidden. If you search for "preferences folder" on the forum, you'll probably find the directions. Or if SKJM reads this post soon, I'm sure they'll provide the directions.

Yes,

iCam and iCamSource work perfectly well, I can see perfectly my kids moving at home while I'm doing shopping and when I come back when I open iCamSource on my Mac, the video is fluid, updated and the sensibility is Ok , while motion light is green.

I'll check the direction you've written, thanks a lot !

Maybe you have a permissions issue where icamsource is not being allowed to write files to the directory chosen in icamsource? I know it's possible on PC's, but I'm not a Mac expert...but I'd think Mac could have the same read/write permissions feature for security purposes.

If you click the "View" button in the iCamSource does it open a Finder window to show you where the Motion Events are recorded?

If you click the Change button you can also try assigning the iCamSource a different Motion Events folder location to see if that works.
