CPU usage 25 to 50% - HELP!!!
« on: August 16, 2009, 08:01:49 PM »
On a Mac G5 2x2GHz the CPU usage is too high.
25-50% idle, 50% when iPhone connected.
(Running OS X 10.5.7)

Can anyone else on a PPC machine confirm this high CPU usage?

macaholic is getting technical support for this problem through email.  If there is any new information regarding the problem, I'll post it in this thread.

OK. The new 1.3.5c version with the ability to adjust Push notification timing works well in bringing down CPU usage.
Please make it an option in the GUI, rather than just a Terminal command.

I'we had the same problem on the newest Mac mini with 4GB installed... (I use a Firewire Camera)
Actually the iCam server CPU usage is steady 65% wich is kinda anoying, since I'd like to use my server for other stuff than just monitoring my hallway...
The problem exist both en OSX 10.5 & 10.6 - Resetting PRAM or Clean install of OSX makes no difference.
I hope you fix it soon... so I won't regret buying the icam software for my iphone.
It would also be nice if you implement a recording function

Howdy - Is your camera a Firewire webcam (like an iSight) or a DV camera with a Firewire cable?

Does the CPU usage change if you close the iCamSource window?

It's a firewire video card (canopus ADVC55) and I allways dissable the iCamSource window, since it's a server

Actually, I'm a bit surprised that the card works with iCamSource at all.  A lot of video capture cards aren't recognized by the OS as a webcam.

I'm guessing that the the high processor usage is probably due to the raw image size from the video card or the framerate from the video card.  I know that some Firewire cameras will use more CPU because they have a higher framerate than most webcams.

Does the card have any settings where you can set resolution, compression, or framerate?
