I'm Confused

It is really cool to be able to see the activity over the iPhone, but I don't understand the slow response time. Over 5 years ago Apple released the iSight, which used an app called iChat via AOL's network, and you could see who you were talking to full screen on a 30 inch monitor with no jerkiness at all. It was not called HD, but it was pretty clear, and you saw no delay, saw-teeth or boxiness. Also, the iPhones now use Face To Face, which also streams with no delay. So is there some inherent reason for the delay with this app, even over a local wifi? Since they all go via the internet, you would think that such a small screen as the iPhone has would have no delay at all, if there has been none via apps like iChat for many years?

Dear Confused,

Sorry, I had to say it. Anyway, Apple places a bandwidth limit on the app...most likely due to pressure from AT&T. Regardless of who is to blame, it makes sense. Sure, the technology is there...but the bandwidth over a cellular network is NOT. AT&T can barely keep up with the users as-is.
