keep camera on when switching accounts
« on: September 15, 2010, 10:21:37 AM »
Looking for help.

I used to be able to start icam on my macbook
and run it on my main account, then
switch to the guest account and camera would stay on.

There must have been an update or something because
now when I switch accounts on my macbook with icam running
the camera will shut off.

Is there a way to keep icam running when accounts are switched.
I don't like leaving my personal account open and accessible when away
and would like to have my camera system function and able to be tamper proof.

thanks

OUAnthony

I'm not a Mac guy, but I saw some other posts on here regarding the same problem (I believe). From what I read, it was an update from Mac that is causing the problem. And last I heard, there was no fix for it. You might do a search on scroll through the posts over the last couple of weeks. I believe the subject contained "Leopard"

Snow Leopard changed it so that the camera can't be accessed when the user session is locked out or if the computer is switched to a different user.

You could try launching iCamSource under the guest account as well.  Before Snow Leopard, that would cause a problem because the two instances of iCamSource would fight over access to the camera.  That shouldn't happen with Snow Leopard since only the active account can access the camera.
