I've been using iCam and now iCam Pro now for several years and it's been a great investment and a program I use almost every day, and while it's a useful app, I think it can benefit from an update or revamping of the app's user interface. Here are some of my suggestions and constructive criticisms that I hope you could take into consideration:
- The control icons on the right side are sometimes difficult to tap. They often don't register, possibly because of the way that Apple handles the touch control of an icon to its active pixels. Since the gear is an empty outline, that's usually the icon that takes the most attempts to get my finger to tap it exactly to activate it.
- The interface sometimes shows a 3x3 or 4x4 multiple video feed view, even when I only have at most 4 cameras. This usually occurs when I have a poor connection or when it reinitializes itself when a new network is nearby, and the app believes I have more than 4 cameras in that instance, which makes the interface switch to a 9 or 16-panel video feed view.
- In addition to the labels on each of the video feeds, small icons to show the status of its detection/notify/record settings would be nice. Additionally, an indicator on each panel in the multiple video feed view, showing that recent movement or sound was detected on that particular feed would be helpful.
- Hardcoding a timestamp would be a great addition to the video feed or its captured images.
- Swiping on a video feed in the multiple video feed view would toggle settings (i.e. swipe up to toggle detection, swipe down to toggle notification, swipe right to toggle recording).
- Alternatively, for the 4x4 panel view that's big enough, you could add the ability to toggle the advanced settings by tapping once on video feed, and double-tapping on the video feed to go in and out between single and multiple video feed views.
- Flashing the activated detection zone on a video feed that has that feature enabled and configured.
- The 'Share' icon in 'View Events' should be a 'Trash Can' or 'Gear' icon, as the function provides the option to 'Delete all Events' and 'Refresh,' and nothing to do with 'Sharing' anything.
- An actual 'Share' feature should replace the 'Camera' icon in the single feed view, and it should provide the option to save the image to the Camera Roll, as well as sending the image as an attachment in an e-mail, iMessage/text message, AirDrop, or even Copy to Dropbox, Twitter, Facebook, etc.
Hope these give you some good ideas that you could implement or draw inspiration from. Thanks again!
