icam source crashes
« on: March 14, 2013, 10:34:52 AM »
I recently started using icam source and it worked beautifully for about a day. It then started crashing every time I hit start. I have tried deleting and reinstalling the app but it continues to crash. Any help would be appreciated. I have been searching through the forum but nothing has worked.

Windows or Mac? If on Windows, have you tried using the registry file to clear the icamsource settings? Have you also ensured that you have the latest drivers and Windows updates installed?

What settings are you using in icamsource: Auto config router checked or unchecked? Manual port forwarding checked or unchecked? You should have neither of those options checked, or only one of the 2 checked...never both checked. If you have auto config router checked, you also need to have uPNP enabled in your router settings. If you have manual port forwarding checked, you also need to set up port forwarding rules in your router, which can be a bit of a pain. If you have more than one camera, based on my experience, you should have one of the 2 boxes checked...and you'd likely be ok with neither checked if you only have one camera.

I am using a Mac. I have tried using it with the auto config checked and could not get it to work. I then turned on port forwarding with the terminal command and everything worked fine for a day. I had two cameras, one from my the macbook and the other from an iphone using IP cam. That evening I shut it down and I have not been able to get it to even start without crashing since. I have since gone through the long process of setting up a static ip address and turning on port forwarding through my router. Nothing seems to work. I have even attempted to reset everything to simulate the initial conditions when I first set everything up but it keeps crashing.

If iCamSource is crashing, there should be crash logs.

The crash logs would be in:

/Users/<Your Username>/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/iCamSource_<date_time>.crash.log

or in:

/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/iCamSource_<date_time>.crash.log

If you are running Mac OS 10.6.3: they moved the crash logs to /Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports or /Users/<YourUsername>/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports

If you are running Lion: it hides the ~/Library directory for some reason. You can get to that directory by running Finder and then holding the Option key while clicking on the "Go" menu at the top of the screen. If you're holding down the Option key, "Library" will be one of the choices available. You should choose /Library/Logs/CrashReporter/iCamSource_<date_time>.crash.log. The crash logs should be there.

If you find crash logs, please send the most recent one to support@skjm.com. Also, please reference this forum post and your user name in your email.
