Audio Dropouts (revisited)
« on: November 19, 2009, 04:04:58 PM »
Problem:

Audio's good for 2-5 secs, then goes out for 2-5 secs.

Doesn't matter if I'm on wifi or edge.  Same thing.

(Few months ago a previous poster described the same problem but never resolved.)
_______________
iCam Source running on a Sony Vaio (VGN-FS550)
Configured to point to my Logitec Quickcam Pro 9000 (audio & video)
Running Windows XP Home
Connected via 100gb ethernet to a Netgear (WGR614v3) router
Connected to Comcast cable modem

iCam running on Original iPhone (3.1.2)
Connected to the Netgear wireless router (or via Edge ... same problem)

Router UDP ports 12000-12100 forward to Vaio
iCam Source configured to use these

If you are connecting via the same WiFi network this is the best-case situation.

Do you have the latest Logitech drivers installed along with all of the latest updates for XP?

When you are connected, what kind of frame-rate do you see on iCam?

If the audio is dropping out then it either isn't being sent from the iCamSource or it isn't being received by iCam. When you are connected, what does the % CPU usage look like for the iCamSource in the Task Manager?

Thanks Stefan.

Per your advice, updated all my OS and logitech software & drivers.

During the process, logitech prompted me that while my PC specs (1.6 ghz, Pentium M laptop w 500mb ram) met its minimum requirements, they weren't "optimal" for the quickcam 9000 (*sigh*).  I suspect this might be the reason for the audio cutting in and out.

As far as video goes, it's hard to tell.  I might be getting a frame or 2 a second on my iPhone while on my home network wifi, but have noticed that iCam Source video frame rate is much better.  Maybe there's some issues with my network/internet connection as well that might be impeding the audio (?).

Laptop's approaching its 5th birthday.  Might be time to upgrade.

OK, cpu usage results ...

Noticed that when I launch the logitech QC app, my cpu usage varies depending on the resolution of the feed I request.  Only use about 15-20% when in 320x240 QVGA.

iCam source, however, routinely pegs my cpu, especially when I connect w. iCam.

Possible to modify iCam Source to use a lower res feed from my Quickcam Pro 9000 to minimize the cpu usage?

The iCamSource simply asks for the default image size for the camera. Are you able to set the camera's default resolution to 320x240?
