Please help - slow video
« on: June 20, 2009, 01:59:15 PM »
Hi all,

I've just discovered iCam and got it installed on my PC and iPhone, however the image on the PC seems to update about once a minute or so, is this a setting?  I expected it to be in real time...

Any help would be appreciated.

Some other details;

1. The stream appears correct for a few seconds in ICamSource (v1.1.3) then it freezes up and seems to refresh about once a minute.

The cam is a Microsoft Live Vision cam, works perfectly in all other applications.

Thank you for your post, and I am sorry that you are having problems.

One update a minute is not the standard setting, no. On 3G it should update every second or two, and on WiFi it should update multiple times every second.

Do you experience this issue when connecting via 3G/EDGE or WiFi or both?

Hi,

It's in Windows that the display via iCamSource is not refreshing.  I'm running the software on Vista Home Premium (64 bit).  The web cam appears to be all set up and is working correctly in other applications.

It's literaly when I staty up ICamSource it runs for about 2-5 seconds then freezes and appears to refresh about once a minute.  I've tried both the latest stable version and the new beta version of ICamSource and both do the same thing.

I am going to try it on my Vista 32 bit today to see if it's something to do with that, but any thoughts you have would be greatly received.  Other than this issue I'm very pleased with ICamSource and the IPhone software.

The Microsoft Live Vision is the Xbox camera, correct?

From this support article it looks like the 64-bit Vista support of the camera is "unknown" : http://www.microsoft.com/Windows/compatibility/Details.aspx?type=Hardware&p=Xbox%20360%20Live%20Vision&v=Microsoft&uid=&pf=0&pi=9&c=Cameras%20%26%20Photo&sc=Webcams&os=64-bit

That seems somewhat odd as they are both Microsoft products ... Are there are any drivers that you can install / update for the camera?

On 32-bit Vista it says it is supported and compatible, so I would be interested to see how that works for you.

Hello,

Was a fix for this problem ever found?  I am running an Xbox Live Vision webcam on Vista Ultimate 64-bit, paired with iCamSource 2.1.1 and iCam 2.0, and am having the exact problems described (after 1-2 secs of operation, further updates take 20s - 1min, with only one new frame shown per minute).

I don't think the drivers are a problem, because the webcam works perfectly with Skype.  I don't think it is the connection to the iPhone, because the problem shows in the iCamSource, iCamWeb, and iPhone even on the same local WiFi network.

So far, I have tried updating the camera drivers and disabling motion detection to no avail.  I can get slightly-better-but-still-very-choppy video by moving the slider for image quality all the way to the left for faster updates, but then of course the quality takes a nose dive.

One possible clue I noticed is that each time I start and stop iCamSource, a new instance of the ffdshow video decoder appears in my tray.  They don't disappear until I close the iCamSource completely and then mouse over them.  Do you think this could be related?  I believe ffdshow came with the k-lite codec pack I use.  Of course, this tray icon does not appear when I use the webcam in Skype, but always appears when I start the camera in iCamSource.

Thank you in advance for any help or insight!

Other users have reported issues with ffdshow.  Apparently ffdshow takes over the image encoding from the operating system.  Some users have resolved the problem by removing ffdshow. Another user was able to resolve the problem by changing the ffdshow settings to exclude the iCamSource application.

Setting FFDShow Video to exclude iCamSource.exe seems to have solved the problem!  The speed is closer to one frame ~2 seconds on WiFi, but that is still a significant improvement, meaning the immediate problem was solved.  For others like me who search and find this thread and have K-Lite Codec pack installed, here is what you do:

1) Go to Start > All Programs > K-Lite Codec Pack > Configuration > ffdshow video decoder
2) In the list on the left, select "DirectShow control"
3) On the right, make sure the "Don't use ffdshow in:" box is checked and click "Edit..."
4) Click "Add..."
5) Locate your iCamSource.exe file, mine was in "C:\Program Files (x86)\iCamSource\iCamSource.exe"
6) Click "OK"
7) Click Apply if you want, or OK and close out of the configuration screen.

Hope this helps!
