Fast User Switching Kills Connection
« on: January 21, 2011, 01:18:12 PM »
Hello:

I installed iCam Source on my iMac with Snow Leopard and have it working with my iPhone 4 and iCam.
However, if I switch to a new account the connection is lost between iCam Source and iCam.
I have iCam Source installed on one account and would like to be able to access the webcams no matter what account is logged-in at the time.
I'd prefer to not have to install it on multiple accounts.
Is this a bug in iCam Source or is there a workaround?
Thanks!

Rob

This behavior is actually determined by the operating system, not iCamSource,

With Snow Leopard (10.6), the operating system only allows access to the camera (built-in and USB) when the account is active.  If you switch to another account, the program will not have access to the camera.  I know that one person has gotten it to work by having an instance of iCamSource running in each account, but that won't work at the log-in screen.

With Leopard (10.5) or Tiger (10.4), the operating system does allow access to the camera when the account is inactive.  In that case, if you are switching between accounts, only one of the accounts can be running iCamSource, otherwise they would conflict with each other.

Didn't someone find a work around for this? I could be wrong, but I thought someone posted what they did to get around this issue.

Nevermind...I'm wrong. I was thinking of this work-around to auto-start icamsource on a Mac's guest account:

I wish this had been mentioned in the description on the App Store. Would have saved me $5 as now this is not usable under Snow Leopard.

I believe the workaround is to run the iCamSource under both logins.
