Video Freezes but audio still available
« on: October 30, 2010, 10:21:14 PM »
New user, pardon my ignorance. I have an issue where the vidoe will freeze but i still have audio when using my iphone. The video also freezes on the computer (running iCamSource 2.1.3, Vista 64bit, Imogen Studio Bambino camera). Hitting "Stop" then "Start" on iCamSource fixes the issue, but of course this can't be done when i am away from the computer. Any help is much appreciated. Have a good one.

Sounds like an issue with the camera. Do you have the latest drivers installed? Does that camera freeze up when other programs use it?

Is your webcam plugged directly into your computer and not into a USB hub or extension cable?

The wireless dongle is plugged into the front of teh computer (not a usb hub) and I just re-installed the driver from the manufacturer website - still have the problem. The wireless dongle has an "activity light" on it - when it flashes, it works fine , when it is solid "ON", it does not work (picture freezes). When the issue presents itself, the "activity light" goes solid, but when i stop then start iCamSource, it resets and goes to flashing - hope that made some sense.

It does sound like an issue with the camera, like OUAnthony said.

Does the camera work for extended periods with other webcam applications?

do you have any suggestions for other web cam software to try? I have tried Seedonk, but their servers time-out at 5 minutes (thats the reason i switched to iCamSourse)

Try using a chat messenger that support video...like Yahoo, Skype, etc.

So i tried connecting the USB camra to my wife's laptop which has an intergrate webcam, i changed the "Dell Webcam Central" software setting to view the USB camera instead of the integrated webcam and had no problems with the video freezing for more than 20 hours. I shut that program down and launched icamsource and within 10 minutes the video stearm froze. The only way to get it back is to "stop" then "start".

This might help you...download/install ManyCam (it's free). ManyCam can clone your camera for you (mainly so you can use your camera with multiple programs at the same time). In ManyCam, set the video source as your USB camera. Then, in icamsource, select ManyCam as your video source. See if that "fixes" the problem.

Are you also choosing the USB webcam as the audio input in the iCamSource? (I am not sure if the Dell application was also using the webcam's audio input.)

Does the video also from on the iCamSource when using the built-in webcam on your wife's laptop?

This is not an issue that other users are reporting, so it sounds like it would be something specific to your webcam / setup.
