Home Security - is iCam best option
« on: September 24, 2010, 11:03:30 PM »
Hi

I saw this iCam in TV and very much interested in getting them installed as I concerned about security at home.

I got a iPhone 3g and PC run by Windows XP Home Edition.

I would like to get motion detection cameras insalled and get notify by my iPhone and to watch them throguh internet.

Please let me know:

(a) What equipment and softwares I need to get this setup?  From where I could buy them?  I prefer to have wireless equipment.

(b) Information about how this work.

I am not a computer or technology guy, so please talk to me in simple English.  Thanks guys.

iCamSource supports video and audio for USB and built-in webcams.  In general, we've had good luck with Logitech Quickcam webcams.

iCamSource also has video-only support for Wi-Fi cameras that output MJPEG or JPEG formatted data over HTTP.  We currently own and use the following Wi-Fi cameras which are compatible with the iCamSource:

Linksys WVC54GCA - http://www.linksysbycisco.com/US/en/products/WVC54GCA
AirLink101 SkyIPCam500W - http://www.airlink101.com/products/aicn500w.php
AirLink101 SkyIPCam747W - http://www.airlink101.com/products/aicn747w.php

So far, we haven't had any problem with any of those models.

All of these cameras should be available online (Amazon, etc.).   Linksys and Logitech cameras should be available at large retailers, such as Best Buy.

There is information about getting started with iCam here: http://skjm.com/icam/help/

As someone who doesn't work for iCam but uses their services I would say iCam is one of the best options you could ever use for home security.

At this very moment I am sitting in my office and I am watching 2 cameras at my house.  The webcam in my house covers my living room where I can see my dogs doing their thing while I'm not there.  I have an Airlink 747W camera outside which covers my patio and back garden.  I LOVE iCam, LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE  ;D

My dog had taken serioulsy ill one day while I was at work, I caught it on my phone and rushed home to take care of him.

I have 2 webcams in my office and again the Airlink 747W pointing outside into the parking lot.  From home, I've caught colleagues coming into my office who should not be there, given them a call on their cellphone and scared the beejezus outta them, love that.

The motion detection means I do not have to watch it like a hawk 24/7.

For me, iCam and the iPhone are fabulous.  If you get the system I do not think you will be disappointed.
