iCam Support / problem with fixed internal ip
« on: May 07, 2010, 01:09:22 PM »
Hi. I have a new problem.I'm trying to put my local connection a fixed ip (like 192.168.1.33) to connect and view my webcam from anywhere without having to open the ports every time the ip is renewed. if I put the ip manually (fixed ip), the program does not work well. I get motion detection alerts in my ipod (push notifications) but if i try to connect to icam to see in real time my webcam I get an error (Source connection error: One or more of the icamsources returned by the icam broker server could not be connected to).
If the router assigns the ip automatically to  my imac, no problem, the program works correctly
Is not it possible to use the program with a manual ip?
thanks

I corrected this in the original thread, and am posting it here again since many people read new items.  Basically, this works very well, but one must not change the name of the alias of the iCam data in the Dropbox.

I want to occasionally use iCam as a simple security system.  I was concerned that in the event that someone broke into my house, one of the first things they'd go for was my computer.  So, other than anything I was able to snap of the iCam data stream on my iPhone (assuming I acted on a push alert), the record of the burglary would be gone.  I wanted some way to backup the data stream other than on the machine running iCam Source, so if the computer is stolen you can still get the perp’s picture.

I've been playing around with Dropbox, and I think it’s a killer solution.  Note that the MJPEG images comprising the iCam stream are stored in Pictures are presently stored in:

[user]/pictures/iCam source motion events/[gigantic hash sequence]/[date-time stamp].

If you make an alias of the [gigantic hash sequence] folder you can drop it in the Dropbox, which might be on your computer desktop.  Do not rename the alias! Any images that appear in the [gigantic hash sequence] folder are immediately reflected in the Dropbox Cloud server, as well as anyplace else you have a synchronized Dropbox.  This updating is continuous and does not wait for the motion trigger event to be completed!

The mirrored Dropboxes will show the JPEGs in the Dropbox files, just as they do on your computer.  However, if you throw away the file from the alias in Dropbox, the file is gone for the Mac as well – so be careful.

This seems to be an ideal solution to remote backup of the MJPEG stream.   I've tried it and it works!  Best of all, Dropbox is free for up to 2GB storage.

And, thanks to Stefan for doing a sanity check on my ideas!

It is a great solution. This is something I've thought for a long time and could not find solution.I recently install the Dropbox and this program is very useful to complement the ICAM but I have a problem with dropbox on th ipod.
If you try to access the alias floder  from the dropbox app or from safari using the ipod, you can not see the photos.in fact, if the alias folder has pictures inside this folder on the iPod stops being a folder. its strange...Please, can you try to access to your Dropbox account using your ipod or iphone and tell me if you have the same problem as me? thanks, and once again, great idea!

It's me again. I try to access my Dropbox account from another computer and is similar to that from the ipod. if the alias folder has pictures inside this folder changes to a file and I can not log in to view images

Hi again! I have been researching and found that a alias folder does not work with dropbox. To operate the dropbox with the ICAM is to create a symbolic link between the two programs. This is done using the terminal and a simple way. Try the following:
Use the ln command, for example:

ln -s /path/to/desired-folder ~/Dropbox/desired-folder

This works with files too:

ln -s /path/to/desired-file ~/Dropbox/desired-file

Another easy way to do this with Terminal is type the ln -s part, then from Finder drag the folder/file that you want into the Terminal window then drag the Dropbox folder and hit return.

Note that an Alias file or folder does not work.

Now, icam and dropbox works very well togheter. Now im absolutely satisfied.

kirshley - The No Sources Found message means that your phone was able to communicate successfully with the server, but the server didn't have any iCamSources connected for that account at that moment.  It generally indicates a problem with the login/password or an iCamSource issue (crashing or blocked network traffic).
The problem is already solved. The solution was to stop the source Icam and on again. Everything works properly. Every day I am happier with this program
Thanks

Hello there, I discovered this app. 2 days ago and decided to try it out.

Now my problem is, that I got the ICam Source running on my laptop (with an in-built webcam)

But when I open the ICam app. on my iPod Touch it says "No Sources Found", and I have checked for spelling several times

I tried using the iCamWeb and interesting enough its working there, so I can't seem to figure out what the problem is..

Any help would be apreciated, seems like such a great app.

 - Henvil

i bought this app last week from applestore and since this sunday i have this problem too. Last week i have used the icam app very well but yesterday and today i have the same error " no source detected" i dont change my user and my password in my iPod. Its the same login as the last week and today in my work i try to connect to see my house and the error has appeared to my surprise. However, if i try to connect via icam web with the same login i can see my cam.
The other problems I had with the icam source and icam app were that the icam app will not download from applstore but last week i bought in applestore becouse this is a great app but i have a question. Is stable the server for the proper functioning of the app?
Thanks for your help

iCam Support / Re: Not receiving Push Notifications
« on: April 13, 2010, 11:00:52 AM »
The accounts did not change. But the push notifications become disabled automatically. I'm not sure what to do here.

Here's what it says

"Please Note : Sending Push Notifications on Motion Detection has been turned off as there is currently no "Push on Motion" iCam associated with this account."

The Send Push Notifications checkbox is enabled when you connect to the iCamSource with iCam after purchasing the Push on Motion upgrade.

You are currently only able to accept Push Notifications from one account at a time, so if you change your account either on iCam or the iCamSource the iCamSource checkbox will be unchecked if there are no iCam iPhones or iPod touches registered with our server to receive notifications for that account. (This is merely a way to prevent push notification traffic from being sent to our server when there is no iCam to send it to.)

If you have any further questions or issues, please let me know.

Thanks. :)

Now i have the same problem. i have installed icamsource v1.4 in my mac and icam 1.3.1 in my ipod. i tried to connect the icam source in other network and the send motion notifications option unchek automatically.  I dont touch nothing, and yesterday the app crash. I use the same login and password all the time. i cant understand it.

Yes, if i enable the send push notifications motions in my ipod, its enable in icam source too and viceversa. I dont change my user name or my password. The only thing that i change is the update the macosx. I can see my webcam in my ipod normally and i can record motion but if i enable the push notification in my mac or in my ipod, when the webcam detects motion, in my ipod i can see a push notification but then this option turn off.
thanks for the answer

Hello. Here I am again with a new problem.a few weeks ago I had the problem of server broker which resolved by installing the 1.4 icam source version on my mac and 1.3.1 ICAM version  on my ipod touch 2G.With this configuration I got it all works very well until today Monday because I have a new problem. I have configured the program to detect motion and thus to capture the screen and leave me a message on the iPod with a push notification. The problem is that when it detects motion, its sends me a push notification to the ipod but the "send push notifications motion" option turns off automatically in both programs, icam and icam source.
If I active again this option ( in icam or in icam source) when motion is detected its send my the push notification and this options disconnects again and in the icam source i can read an error message: "Please Note: Sending push notifications on motion detection has been turned off as there is currently no "push on motion" icam associated with this account"
I can see my webcam in another network, in my home network, when detects motion the icam record motion well...but the push notification only work one time and then its disconnect automatically

The only thing i do this weekend is update my mac from MAC OSX 10.6.2 to MAC OSX 10.6.3. Would this be what causes this mistake?
thanks for your answer.

Thank you for the feedback, and I do apologize that things have stopped working for you.

When the new iCam and the new iCamSource connect to one another they use the new "zero-config" connection logic, but when either the iCamSource or iCam is a previous version then they both use the previous "zero-config" logic, so that is why you are able to connect with the new iCamSource combined with the old iCam.

If you could go to http://whatismyipaddress.com/ from the computer running the iCamSource and e-mail what it says your IP address is to support@skjm.com then we can look it up in the iCam Broker Server logs and hopefully determine what the issue is.
I send to you an email with the ip, but i forgot write my nick in it! :(

I have tried to do something. I have installed the previous version of icam app (1.3) and the new version of  icam source in my iMac and the app works well on my iPod (in a different network) but if i install the new update in the iPod, the app dont work. I see that the problem is not the network or the router becouse if the problem could be this, the previous version of icam app dont work too. Isnt it?

Hi, first of all, thanks for the new update.
But i have one problem. With the previous version, the app works fine in my iPod touch 2g but with the new update the app works very well in my network working with wifi, but i cant connect to icam source from other network.Im trying to connect with wifi, but an error message appear: icam broker server cant connect. I only update the icam program and the icam source program. All the parameters are the same as i had with the previous version. I dont touch the firewall, i dont open any port... And as i say, the previous versión works until i update the app.
One thing curious is that if i try to see the web cam with icamweb in a different network, this works and i can see it, but no with my iPod touch 2g...

Sorry for my english. Im waiting for your answer and one more time, thanks for the app!
