seems like something that may or may not hog system resources

a single screencap of a camera feed would require a few kilobytes of storage, and no other resources whatsoever. It is as close to "nothing" as you can get without actually being nothing!

There are a zillion reasons to do this, and no good reasons not to. And it's comparatively easy to program. I hope they do it.

Any experiences out there using ImogenStudio +Cam (http://www.amazon.com/ImogenStudio-Cam-Wireless-Network-Android/dp/B007X5MZKS) with iCam?
Looks good; $80 ethernet cam with good security and encryption plus "Night Vision" (via infrared LEDs).

If a tree smashes a window in a storm (something that's a high priority for me to remotely monitor for), it's also likely that the power will be taken out at some point by that same storm, leaving me with dead feeds and no info.

It'd be incredibly helpful (and likely not difficult to program) to add a "last feed" image, showing the last image for any/every cam before its feed went dead. Sort of a final screen cap.

That way, if I wake up in another city, knowing my power's out, I can check iCam and see something other than black....possibly useful info of what things looked like at the moment before blackout....the last moment for which data is available. I can't imagine anyone not wanting that.

Make sense?

Again, I'm using a laptop, which has battery power which I think (?) should bridge any power outtage of under 3-4 hours.

Aside from that, am I good to go?

iCam Support / Will iCam Work For This Use?

Forgive the extreme newbie question.

I'm going away for 2 weeks and want to monitor whether my basement floods.

I'd like to set up a cam, leave a light on, and be able to check the feed via iphone.

I'm hoping to buy a cheap USB webcam, hook it up to my macbook pro (its built-in isight camera's not working), set it to never sleep, and have it "just work".

I don't need to store footage for later review. I just want to be able to check in to see if there's water at any given time. I'd rather not fill up my hard drive with hundreds of hours of video files.

Will iCam work for this? Or any of your other software? Anything I need to bear in mind?
