Ok... now here's an interesting twist. I again deleted the preference file and ALL iCamSoucre files and application. I went to the "Downloads" folder and reopened the downloaded iCamSource application BUT this time I saved the application to the "Downloads" folder NOT the "Applications" folder. I started the application and the preview is working. I logged into iCam and the video is there.
iCamSource is in my "Downloads" folder. iCamSource does not work when the application is in my "Applications" folder. But it is now working again....
I tried a couple more times, deleting cameras, deleting preferences, adding back cameras, everything except reinstalling Snow Leopard 10.6.8 (I hate OS reinstalls).
Other than maybe a recent MacOS Security Update, I can only think of one other change to the iMac. I recently installed MS Office 2011 (maybe a week or so) before the iCamSource quit working.
I use iCamSource as a back-up to my alarm service and to check if my employees get swamped, so it's become a very useful app....
I was using version 2.3.4.2. I even tried deleting it and installing an earlier version, but no luck.
Today, I deleted all iCamSource app, files, preferences and then restarted the iMac. I downloaded and reinstalled 2.3.4.2. I started PhotoBooth as suggested. The iSight camera was working and the preview image appeared in PhotoBooth. I started iCamSource and the default camera was iSight, but no preview "before, during or after" starting iCamSource. The iSight indicator light is on, iCamSource says, "Connected to server" but no preview and nothing on iCam (except those from my other iMac). I again tried adding a new camera and deleting the original... no luck.
Works fine on my old MacMini, MacBook Pro, G4 PowerBook and a new 21" iMac. It worked fine on the 24" iMac until it just stopped working a couple days ago.... beats me....
I'm in the same building now and I loaded iCamSource on my MacBook Pro and it works fine.
FYI - when I start iCamSource on the iMac, the iSight camera light comes on and it says it's connected to the server but still no preview and nothing on iCam. Same with the Logitech when I add it to iCamSource.... the light comes on and it's says it's connected to the server but no preview and nothing on iCam.
I tried that too... I disconnected the Logitech from the usb, deleted it from iCamSource, leaving only the iSight. I added a camera and deleted the original iSight. I set-up the new, but still nothing. I reentered username and password... I even tried new usernames and passwords on both iCamSource and iCam on my phone.
Let me ask a silly question.... when you add a camera, does it got to the top or bottom of the list? I assumed it went to bottom and I deleted the top camera.
As I said, it was working perfectly for months... occasionally drop with a power outage, but otherwise - stable.
I have been using iCamSource on a couple iMacs for months with great success, then it just stopped working one of the iMacs (SnowLeopard). I get no preview from either the iSight or the usb Logitech. I can see images from both cameras using PhotoBooth and other apps so I know the cameras work, but not in iCamSource or iCam. No other apps are using the cameras. I've deleted the preference file, unplugged usb devices, tried other usb ports, rebooted the iMac, repaired permissions, even reinstalled freshly downloaded iCamSource. I did the previous multiple times/multiple combinations.
It worked great. It's not the cameras, it's not iCamSource.... any ideas?
Both iMacs are Intel and running the latest OS versions. One Lion and the one that just stopped working running SnowLeopard (needed for Point of Sale software). It still works on my other iMac (Lion).
