I'm a long time user of icam but have never used a wifi camera and wondered if i should be confident of using something like the TP Link wifi camera below or should i be aware of any pitfalls with wifi cameras with icam these days (hopefully not . Any help or pointers greatly apreciated.
I'm a long time user of icam and realise the monitoring of it is provided by Android or Apple pad/mobile devices if you want a multi camer view but I don't have that option in the current setup unfortunately. I'm currently using VNC to connect with my cameras and grouping the instances of vnc viewer on a pc monitor (not ideal). I'm asking does anyone know if I could be doing this a better way? Im trying to view 3 icam sources on a single PC essentially.
I'm having a bit of a mare trying to permantly turn off MS Powershell.exe every time my pc reboots. I can turn it off easy enough in resource monitor but it's getting a bit tedious. The shuttle pc's i run are low power fanless types but this cpu level i don't remember dealing with when I last run the same setups. I'm down to 13 cpu instantly when I manually turn powershell off
As i understand it it's Powershell v2 and it's an on board part of Win 7, i'm led to believe i cannot delete it successfully. Ive tried using applocker to prevent it starting with correct file paths but still no joy.
Has anyone else here had issues with Powershell and overcame them (still in Win7) and can give me a steer on this? :-)
Hi again Steph, i have had success with the public/private proxy method thanks - just one question though, does this method still rely on all the same router and port settings that would have been setup for standard non-proxy use I wondered?
Thanks for your input Stefan, yes i am only using the Huawei E5577Cs Router/dongle - nothing else. It's a great little modern dongle with good features but I think your porobably right in that it is not a visitable server by outside requests (to the best of my limited knowledge). I guess the comparison with gamers and their use of such units isn't comparable after all. I'll explore the proxy option and see how I fare with that. many thanks.
Hi guys,i've been running icam for many years using cable broadband without any fuss, i've recently moved to somewhere without cable and am now using a Huawei E5577Cs 4G mobile dongle/router to connect to the 4gmobile network for all my internet access.
I'm struggling to make icam connect remotely into my home network - it works fine when i'm connectin at home though.
When I check the 'auto configure' box on icam source it says:
'UPnP Dual NAT ext ip: 10.25.105.XXX' , this WAN ip address changes on each reboot of the router (when I check the auto configure box on icam source i lose the webcam image on my iphone)
When i use any of the port checking sites the 10.25...... address isn't used (as it is in auto configure in icam source) and my public ip address : 85.255.234.XXX is used with the result 'ports closed' or 'not visible'.
I'm guessing my open ports aren't even seeing my public 85.255.234 XXX address as it seems icam auto configures the WAN (10.25.105.XXX) address and not my public one if i'm understanding this right?
This router does support port forwarding as the gaming community use it and it has pretty good features configuration wise (virtual server/dmz/nat/upnp etc) My ports from 12000-12005 are all open but they aren't accessible via my public ip it seems so i'm stuck there for the moment unless anyone can help?
Hopefully this makes sense to someone who knows a bit more than me and give me a steer, possibly mobile dongles are a non starter for this but i'm hoping not.
Hi, back again...yes indefd it was to do with a .bat file i had on a scheduled task that was clearing my notification box checks each day. I've replaced it with another simple 'start' bat file to turn icam source on and one to turn it off the next day and it's all good again. Thanks guys.
@OUantony - hi, no it's not in my list of running (or otherwise) services, it's currently active on my pc but it's motion detection schedule is not until 8pm - 5am each day
When I check it the next day the boxes are unchecked again, it's been like this for over a year, i have to manually re-check the boxes on this pc every night
@stefan - yes it may be scheduled tasks that I use are messing with it, i've got a couple of batch files that get triggered to start it at 10pm (also a refresher restart at 1am) and one to stop it at 5.30am as I don't want it running longer than it should be. Maybe these are blowing out the check boxes, didn't think about them - i'll remove them and see how it fares, maybe introduce the start and stop ones again slowly so I can see how it goes.
Hi, long time user of Icam, having to run it on xp on most machines in the house but having a problem with the same machine not keeping it's 'send notifications' and 'record motion' boxes checked each day. I'm running 2.7.2 due to being on XP, i've tried flushing all the settings with my 'clean icam key' reg process and re-installing icam afresh - but the problem persists. So basically every night I have to check these 2 boxes on one icam source PC or it won't watch my premises and alert me.
Any idea what I could try to address this? It's fine on the other machines running xp in the house, it just won't store them for some reason.
@Pontihog - i'm no expert but things just got a whole lot better by using the registry file that gives icam source it's port ranges visible in the program. Have you got that installed? and if so turn of 'auto configure' ports and set your ranges and duplicate these in your router port forwarding and that's about all the advice I can give, that little registry update that gave me the port ranges visible was a big help, though I am using icam on 4 seperate PC's. Maybe that could help you with your situation. The proxy support screen is one of the default displays for a non connection so I no longer attribute anything to it more than that now.
RESOLVED! @stefan - you are indeed right, i had replaced my router - and although I'd allocated a series of dedicated ports for each PC I think my internal ip's may have changed and maybe some other details, anyway it's fine now.
The port forwarding registry patch is great, it's just what i needed running multiple sources/cams - now I can address port ranges in Icam source which is a great bonus, everything seems rock solid with it now, thanks Stefan.
I felt compelled to reply to this older post as unfortunately a lot of things outlined here chime strongly with my experience. Myself an i-cam user for many years, multiple computers running it on my home network, it has saved a burglary happening in my workshop and generally been a great companion for more years that I can quote. However these days when i'm away from home and trying to connect it's a dog, at best. I have VNC viewer on my iphone and can log into any one of my 5 home pc's and clearly see the icam program running - though i'd rather just use Icam on my iphone.
Why can VNC connect to my home network no matter where I am and i-cam source struggles more than half the time?? Very frustrating as I love(ed) this program. I've little doubt if I purchase some proxy support i'll be back in the loop instantly, but that wasn't necessary before. So to summarise when I'm around the home network (at home) it's fine, but now whenever I go on holiday or away it looks like i'm now obliged to use the proxy service. Though VNC has no problem getting straight into my PC's home network ?
Hi, long term home user of icam here just wondering if Icam source can run and be online with a PC using a mobile wi fi wireless modem? This could (hopefully) give me an always on connection at my workshop which isn't served by cable internet I 'm thinking?. I'm wondering if anyone here is using one of these as an 'always on' connection successfully?
thanks OUAnt, oh right, my hope was that the tablet would run Icam source and use it's own built in cam (all self contained) without using another pc, then do a wireless jump onto the home network to be viewed on my phone same as the other pc's/cams. Seems i may have a simplistic view of things! I'll hopefully find a way through (like you suggested) by the end of the week.

Update: I'm missing the obvious here in that there is no source program for the android just the viewing program. Anyway I harnessed my last downstairs PC for one more logitech quickcam and I now have a downstairs house cam, it's sorted now. I only ever got peace of mind with one of these cams per PC for proper use as they usually had a driver fail after a month or so with 2 or 3 duplicates on a single machine, keeps the CPU down a bit too.
