We are pleased to announce that iCam 1.3.1 is now available for download in the App Store!
What's New in This Version:
- Improved "zero-config" connection logic.
- Optionally display an iCamSource's description, date, and time stamp when zoomed in.
- Added the ability to Delete All Motion Events.
- Push on Motion is now included standard at no additional charge.
- Minor bug fixes and improvements.
If for some reason after you update both iCam and the iCamSource (to version 1.4.2) and you are suddenly unable to connect, let us know, and then try reverting back to the previous version of the iCamSource:
http://skjm.com/icam/iCamSource1.4.dmg - Mac OS X
http://skjm.com/icam/iCamSetup1.4.1.exe - Windows
We had a number of beta users test out the new connection logic before releasing it, but you can never test all possible configurations before releasing a product. If you let us know at support@skjm.com that the new version is not working for you we can determine what the issue is and hopefully get you back on track with the latest and greatest. ;)
Thanks! :)

I got the client installed but have not updated the icamsource. Everything appears to be working, but I'm guessing I would need to update icamsource in order to be able to define a specific camera name, etc, to display in iCam?
I was also curious if the overhead is lower for the new version. I've noticed iCamsource consuming over 50MB of RAM in some cases and a decent amount of CPU. This doesn't seem like much but I run multiple instances of iCamsource on a low power home server and every bit counts!
I appreciate the work you guys are putting into this application. I would still say that it would be great if you could put PTZ controls for some of the more popular/mainstream security camera lines into icam as an in app purchase. I have presets on all of my cameras (Panasonics) and would love to be able to point them around while viewing with iCam.
Thanks again!
-
Yes, you do need to update iCamSource in order for the iCamSource description to show up on the iPhone.
The development focus for this update was the network connectivity. Most of the CPU and RAM usage is due to the image processing (resizing, compression, motion detection, etc), which wasn't changed in this update. I'd expect the CPU & RAM usage to be about the same as the last version.
PTZ support is a common request, and it is something we're interested in adding to iCam in the future.

Hi, first of all, thanks for the new update.
But i have one problem. With the previous version, the app works fine in my iPod touch 2g but with the new update the app works very well in my network working with wifi, but i cant connect to icam source from other network.Im trying to connect with wifi, but an error message appear: icam broker server cant connect. I only update the icam program and the icam source program. All the parameters are the same as i had with the previous version. I dont touch the firewall, i dont open any port... And as i say, the previous versión works until i update the app.
One thing curious is that if i try to see the web cam with icamweb in a different network, this works and i can see it, but no with my iPod touch 2g...
Sorry for my english. Im waiting for your answer and one more time, thanks for the app!
-
I have tried to do something. I have installed the previous version of icam app (1.3) and the new version of icam source in my iMac and the app works well on my iPod (in a different network) but if i install the new update in the iPod, the app dont work. I see that the problem is not the network or the router becouse if the problem could be this, the previous version of icam app dont work too. Isnt it?

Thank you for the feedback, and I do apologize that things have stopped working for you.
When the new iCam and the new iCamSource connect to one another they use the new "zero-config" connection logic, but when either the iCamSource or iCam is a previous version then they both use the previous "zero-config" logic, so that is why you are able to connect with the new iCamSource combined with the old iCam.
If you could go to http://whatismyipaddress.com/ from the computer running the iCamSource and e-mail what it says your IP address is to support@skjm.com then we can look it up in the iCam Broker Server logs and hopefully determine what the issue is.
-
Okay, I have one additional question. I run iCamsource as a service. I see that the install package is a .EXE as opposed to the binary itself. If I install with the .exe will I have to set my services back up or run into other issues?
-
I'm not sure, actually. The installer will update the existing exe in the same place as the current one.
If you would like to download the executable itself, it can be gotten here: http://skjm.com/icam/iCamSource1.4.2.exe

Okay, I just downloaded the executable and renamed it to icamsource.exe and restarted my services, it works! Is there a command line option to name the feed that shows up in the iCam window? Right now it has "servername"'s iCamSource displayed as the feed name.

-desc="Name"

Awesome, I love this thing!
Get the PTZ working and I'll give you guys another $20!
-
:D
Thanks for the feedback, viop-ninja. PTZ is something that we will be considering (among other requested features) for the next major release. :)
-
Hi.
Updated for the new release on both iPhone and Mac.
We can set a param -desc ="cam name" when using bat file with windows.
What's about 4 instances on mac ? we can't use batch file if I'm right ?
BR,
-
Since running multiple instances of the iCamSource on the Mac requires you to have multiple copies of the iCamSource.app file, each copy remembers its own description and settings. With windows you only have one installation of the iCamSource that is run multiple times for multiple instances, so that's why you need the batch file.
-
OK, thanks.
So how can I name my cams ?
Actually, in the description in iCamSource/preferences/description, I have set a name, different at each Sources/copy of iCamSources, That 's ok in theses windows.
In iCam on my iPhone, fullscreen, the name is always : Live Cam : Unknown
Is there something I mistake ?
-
Are you running the latest version of the iCamSource (1.4.2) as well? If not, you can download it from http://skjm.com/icam/support.php
:)
-
Arf.
It was 1.4
Works fine with 1.4.2, thanks
-
The link for icamsource 1.4.1 appears to install 1.4.2. I'm still trying to troubleshoot my crashing problems.
-
hi,
with the new icam source 1.4.2 - no port range checkbox so in terminal : defaults write com.skjm.icamsource PortRangeSet -bool true
ok but now in my router i have to portforwarding to connect to icam
with version 1.4 no need to do portforwarding
so why?
-
The "zero-config" connection logic was updated with the latest version of iCam (1.3.1) and the iCamSource (1.4.2) to help things "just work" for a greater percentage of our users. If you use iCam 1.3.1 to connect to the previous version of the iCamSource (1.4 for Mac or 1.4.1 for Windows) then it reverts back to using the old connection logic.
We did have a series of beta testers try out the new connection logic to make sure it worked on as many network configurations as possible, but as with any testing, you cannot test it on every possible network configuration.
There does seem to be a small percentage of users that the new connection logic causes things to break when connecting via 3G.
What is the make and model of your router? We are trying to gather as much information as possible to help further improve our "zero-config" connectivity, but in the meantime reverting back to the previous iCamSource version (now linked to at http://skjm.com/icam/support.php) or forwarding ports in your router will get things working again over 3G.
-
my router is a time capsule and i am not on 3G but on wifi - my tests were on local network.
so really wonder why i need to porforwarding now...
for me 1.4 was zero config - not the 1.4.2
-
Were you unable to connect when your iPhone was connected to the same Time Capsule that the computer running the iCamSource was? Or was it a different WiFi network?
If you could go to http://whatismyipaddress.com/ from the computer running the iCamSource and e-mail support@skjm.com what it says your external IP address is then we can attempt to look it up in the Broker Server logs and hopefully troubleshoot the problem.
Please reference this forum post in your e-mail.
Thanks. :)

It appears that my icamsource crashing problems are being caused by the new version of icam. I rolled back to icam 1.3 and the new icamsource hasn't crashed since on any of my computers.
-
digitalfx - Was iCam 1.3.1 crashing both 1.4.1 and 1.4.2 iCamSources? Or just 1.4.2? Does iCam 1.3 connect fine to 1.4.1 and 1.4.2?
-
ok send mail this morning to support with ip. waiting for an answer :'(
-
lavieaquatique - It's early morning where we are right now ... I'll be replying to you shortly! :)

I'm not sure, the link you posted for icamsource 1.4.1 in this thread installs 1.4.2 (or so it says), even after a clean removal of the original program.
-
I believe that the previous version install is: http://skjm.com/icam/iCamSetup1.4.1.exe
If you uninstall 1.4.2 and install 1.4.1 from the above-linked installer are you saying that 1.4.2 is still what is launched? That file has a timestamp of December 9, 2009 on the server, so it should be the previous (1.4.1) version.
-
Yup, I just cleared my cache and downloaded it again. Uninstalled all previous versions and the window when opened still says "iCamSource Preferences 1.4.2". According to Windows Programs and Features it's version 1.4.4.
-
I just tried installing 1.4.2, uninstalling 1.4.2, deleting the C:\Program Files\iCamSource folder, and installing 1.4.1 and it seemed to work as expected. (The iCamSource Preferences window did say 1.4.1)
Perhaps deleting the iCamSource folder after uninstalling 1.4.2 will help?
-
That did the trick. Apparently I had to delete the icamsource directory. I probably was running 1.4.1 then and the crashing was still happening with the latest version of icam. I'll test it out again as soon as i'm in a 3g area, as the crashing doesn't seem to happen on edge or wifi.
-
I've had no luck fixing the crashing with switching icamsource. It's crashing on three different computers, two with webcam's and one with two IP cams, one megapixel and one standard. Is there any way I can downgrade to an official icam 1.3?
-
Is the old iCamSource crashing as well? Is it crashing only when you connect with iCam 1.3.1 ?
-
Both version of icamsource crash with icam 1.3.1. Not consistently and only ever while trying to connect. Sometimes only one of the two running on the same machine will crash.
-
Do you see any type of crash log information or is it the generic "Windows has shut down this program" type of error message?
-
Sometimes I get just a generic error other times I get no notification at all where the icon still appears in the task bar but when I mouse over it, it disappears.
-
Did it! Works!
Dell laptop with XP, AT&T Wireless, Linksys router on BroadStripe Cable in MD.
Updated the iPhone and PC, turned off port forwarding. Had to restart iCam and I can connect thru WiFi and 3G. Have to try Wifi in my favorite breakfast joint.
3G seems to take a bit longer to connect and video motion looks a bit slower but I need to watch over several days. iCam/web also works. This app just gets better with every release.

Hi. I saw the new version of iCam in the AppStore (2.4.0).
I've changed my cgi script and some buttons action .
The last time I 've upgraded iCam, my script will be replaced.
Is this the same with this 2.4.0 ?
Thanks ;-)
-
Douggy - The latest version of iCam is 1.3.1. Is is possible you're referrring to a different iPhone app? I can't think of any way that iCam would have anything to do with cgi scripts.
