Title: audio stopped working-- can't get it back on--help

When I first installed about 1 year ago all was working well-- suddenly the audio stopped.  Mac OS X 6, iphone 4.  Yes phone volume is up, yes mac microphone is on... any suggestions?

When you are zoomed in and you turn your iPhone's volume all the way up using the buttons on the side of your phone, does it say "Ringer" under the volume adjustment icon that appears on the iPhone's screen?
