Title: Recording mpeg at the computer side
Post by: Gianni on June 28, 2012, 07:46:07 AM
I understand that Ipcam will not record anything. Can someone shed some light on how I can record the images on my Mac? Thank you, Gianni

We are not familiar with programs that will allow you to record continuously, however you can record Motion Events if you setup ipCam like any other WiFi network IP camera to a computer running iCamSource.

The MJPEG URL for ipCam is http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/video.mjpg where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the local IP address that you use to connect to ipCam's web interface using your web browser.

There is more information about setting up iCam/iCamSource here: http://skjm.com/icam/help/ (http://skjm.com/icam/help/)

If you have any questions, please let us know.

VLC (I used 2.02 on the Mac, but it's cross-platform) can record the mjpeg stream. Use the wizard in the file menu to set it up. I had to go through several transcoding options before it worked for me as I couldn't get the RAW option to work, but I really did not know what I was doing. The setup worked reasonably well. You can even record/extract segments of the playback by using the Record option in the Playback window.
