yipes. suggestions? is this webcam I'm trying to use too cheap/crappy? I can view it fine w/ its own software (it's a 'hue' camera; picked it up on a wootoff a couple weeks ago for like $10, www.huehd.com (http://www.huehd.com)

Are the latest drivers installed for the camera? It looks like the camera has it's own Mac drivers, not UVC.
Are there any settings for the camera, either in System Preferences or an application for the camera?
-
the camera comes with some pretty skimpy install disk, but same information can be downloaded from the website (http://www.huehd.com/drivers.html). date on that software is from mid 2007, fwiw.
when i open the included software (called 'webcam monitor') i can change some things, like resolution (will display up to uxga res), color settings, video recording settings/compression type, ntsc/pal/secam, etc.
I don't see any settings for it in system prefs, any suggestions where that might be?
at this point, looks like just VNC'ing in to my machine and opening that webcam monitor app is my best bet...but I'd like to get icam working, as it's definitely slicker...maybe just biting the bullet and getting a decent camera is the answer (was looking at panasonics and axis today).
thanks for any other input you might have....

Can you take a screenshot (or screenshots, if necessary) of the settings available in the "webcam monitor" program? Please email the screenshot(s) to support@skjm.com and refer to this forum thread in your email.

Hope it gets fixed
Thx Steve

Whizzy sent me some screenshots of his camera's driver settings, and I believe that the issue is changing the "Compression" value from "None" to something else, like "JPEG".
Please let me know if that works for you.
Thanks! :)

Thx for looking, but on mine anyway, if i change the settings to anything else, the default program works fine but icam returns the settings to none, i've tried uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling the drivers multiple time, but no diffrence.

Very strange. I am going to be making a test version of the iCamSource in the next day or two that will create a log file that you guys can then send to me to see if I can determine what the issue is.
Whizzy - If you can determine some sort of cause-and-effect for this issue and why it sometimes works for you and sometimes doesn't, that would be a great help.

I have uploaded a new test version of the iCamSource that tells me something about the video stream coming from your camera. It can be downloaded here: http://skjm.com/icam/iCamSource1.3.5b.dmg
When you run it and click Start, it should display a video format description beneath the Motion Detection section of the iCamSource.
If you guys could run it and paste here what it says, I would appreciate it.
For the cameras that I have available, I get the following:
Logitech Pro 9000 - "Y'CbCr 4:2:2 - yuvy, 640 x 480, Millions"
External FireWire iSight - "Component Video - CCIR-601 uyvy, 640 x 480, Millions"
macam #0: QuickCam Expresss - "None, 587 x 480, Millions+"
Thanks. :)

Thanks for the quick responses, much appreciated.
Mine shows:
Raw RGB data, 640 x 480, Millions
