Slow icamweb and recording question
« on: August 29, 2009, 03:07:06 PM »
Hi,

I currently use this app as a security feature for my apartment that holds valuables.

the framerate is so slow on the web feature though that recording during motion does me no help since the blurriness is so intense.
Will this ever change?  Where the framerate is faster online then 1f/s?

Also I would be interested to see the ability to record video on the iphone for the same purpose.  Is there anything like this underway?

If so I might be compelled to purchase for my other phones as well..

The framerate for iCamWeb is set at 1 fps mostly to keep bandwidth and processor usage down whilst also being useful for most applications.

Recording is something that we are currently looking into as a possible addition for a future release.

Hi, can you add an option to select the framerate? So we can choose the right one depending on our system/bandwidth?

Yeah, that should be do-able. I'll add that to the "todo" list. :)

I've just tried ivid and i think it would be awesome to have icam as smooth as ivid... do you think it's possible?

PS: congrats for the great work and support ;)

It couldn't and still be real-time, no. :)

iVid plays back video files that have already been compressed, whereas iCam captures raw video frames, compresses them, and sends them to your iPhone as quickly as possible. Keeping the delay between what you see on your iPhone and what is actually happening down as little as possible is going to result in dropped frames due to compression and network lag.

maybe with h264 or better compression and a fast server running icamsource wouldn't it be possible? at least as an option. i have a quadcore system and i don't mind if it takes too much cpu load to stream a smooth video.

ps: i'm italian, i'm sorry for my english... i hope my english is clear enough.

We'll add that to the list of possible features to implement in the future. :)
