Several other users have asked for the ability to hide the taskbar button or Dock icon. Currently, iCamSource doesn't have that feature, but there are several 3rd party programs available to hide taskbar buttons and Dock icons.
For Mac, a well known program to hide Dock icons is called "Dockless". I've only tried it once, but it worked fine that time.
On Windows, there are a ton of utilities for hiding taskbar buttons. I haven't used any of them myself, but from searching around for a free utility that supported both XP and Vista, I found "Hide Window Hotkey" by Elongsoft and "TaskbarControl" by Pointstone. There are plenty of other ones, free and paid.
I'd like to try connecting to your cam. Please send an email to support@skjm.com so I can give you login info. Please mention this forum thread so I know what you're referring to.
We've heard from one other Windows Beta user that is seeing behavior just like this.
If you'd like to help us track this problem down, please send an email to support@skjm.com with a brief description of the problem. Please include whether you have a built-in cam or a USB cam.
iCam currently supports any cam recognized by Windows or Mac OS as a video source. This generally includes built-in cams, USB cams, and for Mac, firewire cams. It's not that we specifically block the Linksys from working, it's just that the OS doesn't recognize network cams, such as the Linksys, as video sources.
Sorry, I thought I replied to this earlier, but I guess I forgot to hit "Post"
So, on the first iCamSource window with camera #1, it works ok, right? But then, when you run iCamSource a second time with camera #2, it gives you this error?
How many entries do you see in the the drop down list next to "Video Sources"? What are they exactly?
Do you have the latest drivers installed for your cameras?
Multiple cams on a single computer isn't an official feature and hasn't really been thoroughly tested, but several users have reported success getting it to work on both Windows and Mac. I'll do my best to help you get it working. If anybody else has experience getting multiple cams working, please chime in
On the windows version, you should be able to run iCamSource, and then, once the first iCamSource window is up, run iCamSource again. Then, there should be 2 iCamSource windows showing.
It's a little different on the Mac version. You can't just run the same executable twice like you can on Windows. On Mac, you need to make a copy of iCamSource.app, then run both the original and the copy in order to have 2 iCamSource windows running.
Once there are 2 iCamSource windows showing, you should set one window to use camera #1 and the other window to use camera #2. If you want to view both of them from the same iPhone, make sure to set the login/password to be exactly the same on both iCamSource windows.
If it still doesn't work for you after following those steps, then I have some questions for you:
The most common reason for that error is poor 3G/EDGE reception. You can verify this by putting your phone in Airplane mode (turns off 3G/EDGE and wifi) and running iCam. You'll get that same "Can't Connect to Broker Server" message.
There are other, rarer problems that can cause that error to show up. If you are pretty sure that you have good 3G/EDGE/wifi signal and you are still seeing this error message, please send an email to support@skjm.com with a description of the error message you're seeing and your iPhone's IP address. To get your iPhone's IP address, go to http://whatismyipaddress.com in your iPhone's web browser.
When we first thought of this program, it was going to be a motion detection program that notified you when motion was detected. That was back when Apple said there were going to be push notifications in the iPhone 2.0 firmware. Well, they pulled out the push notifications, so we turned it into a straight webcam program.
If Apple ever puts the notification stuff back in, we're definitely interested in putting some motion detection in there.
Currently, the only way to access your cam is through the iPhone/iPod Touch. Several users have asked for this functionality, so there's a good chance we'll develop it in the future.
This problem turned out to be caused by Kapersky firewall software. It seems that Kapersky decided to restrict iCamSource without asking the user whether or not to trust iCamSource. This wouldn't necessarily break iCam by itself, but cobber's iPhone provider also had some restrictive settings on their network. The 2 issues together caused iCam not to work from 3G/EDGE.
So, if you have Kapersky firewall software installed, and you're having issues with iCam not working over 3G/EDGE, please check to make sure that iCamSource is not in your Kapersky list of restricted applications.
As always, please be aware that this is still BETA software, and may not work with your hardware/OS configuration.
This version fixes several issues that were causing the program to crash for some users. If you see any crashes with the latest version, please let us know.
Any feedback either posted in the forum or e-mailed to support@skjm.com would be greatly appreciated.
