iCam Support / Re: Question Regarding Night Vision Camera
« on: November 27, 2011, 07:45:00 PM »
I have an AICN747W and use it for night vision indoors. I just ordered an Airlink AICN1747W to also use indoors. I didn't see in the set up for the AICN747W how to turn off the IR, so I bought an AIC1620W to point outdoors since there is no IR to reflect off of the window. Pan/tilt without IR would be nice. Also ordered another 1620W. I have Airlink IP and Logitech Pro 9000 cams running at home and at a remote location. I'm hooked on Icamsource/Icam. There may be better IP cams out there, but I like the SkyIPCam app on my Android phone for Airlink cams.

Skyking,

How do I turn off the IR on an Airlink 747W? I don't see that option in the web interface.

Can turn off red ring on front of Logitech Webcam Pro 9000 cams in Logitech software interface. Airlink IP cams also have a feature in the web interface to turn off the LED indicators.

Update:

I was suspecting that Comcast is causing my issues, not sure why. Last night I took my desktop computer to my GF's house, she has Fairpoint DSL. I connected to her Westell 7500 modem/router and fired up Icamsource with a cheesy webcam and my Airlink 1620W that is connected to my router in my house (used my host domain, what a wonderful thing!). As of right now, I can see the two cams from the desktop and the three cams from my remote location without any lag. Not sure what the deal is with Comcast, but I'll probably dump them and go with Fairpoint DSL when I get a chance in a few weeks. I get my TV from Dish Network, so no loss there.

Anyone else have a similar issue using a cable modem? Is it possible that someone in my neighborhood is chewing up the bandwidth during the daytime? I live near the end of a dead end street, only one house past mine.

This is more of a general topic, but I could use some help.

I am having a strange issue with Icam connecting to Icamsource running on my home desktop between 6:30am and 6pm, approximately. Desktop is an older Dell with XP Home edition, 2Ghz, 2G ram, 8G of unused hard drive. I have been running Icamsource 2.3.1 for quite a while with one Logitech Pro 9000. I added an Airlink 1620W recently. During the evening until early morning, when I open Icam, I see all 3 cams at my remote location and the 2 cams at home instantly. From 6:30am to 6pm, the remote cams pop up instantly and the home cams lag. Sometimes the Logitech will come up after a minute or so and the IP cam will time out. Even when I just had the Logitech cam, it still lagged coming up.

Remote computer is getting its connection through Fairpoint DSL with a brigded modem and Netgear router. Home computer is on Comcast economy package with a Netgear router.

I did a test the other night with a Windows 7 laptop. I ran Icamsource all day using the built in webcam. It connected all day while the 2 cams on the desktop lagged or didn't connect.

Last night, I removed all unused programs on the desktop. Added Malwarebytes and did a full scan. 3 .5 hours later and 9 infected files, I rebooted it and then started Icamsource. All was fine until around 6:30am this morning. Remote cams come on immediately and home cams lag or don't connect. I suspected Comcast, but the Windows 7 laptop didn't have an issue connected wirelessly to router on same network as desktop. Desktop is running near 100% CPU when Icamsource is running, with 1 cam or 2 cams. Anyone have any ideas?

I see that you have 1 post. You should try posting your issues here and maybe someone who has had similar issues can help you. Maybe list the cams being used, PC operating system, etc.

Network / IP Camera Compatibility / Re: Airlink 1620W

Update:

I received the Airlink 1620W this past Wednesday. I had to leave town on Thursday and did a quick set-up. The web interface is very similar to the Airlink 747W that I have, sans pan/tilt and IR. I set it up with a lan cable then enabled wireless using WPS. It connected with no issues. I also set it to 4 fps. The lens focus has a good range. I set it pointing out a window and the image is good, not quite as good as the Logitech Webcam Pro 9000's that I have, but pretty good for a wide shot of the neighborhood with its 4mm lens. I didn't have time to get it on icamsource at the time and monitored it remotely using SkyIPCam. I got back today and added it to icamsource. I used the same url as the 747W, http://xxx.xxx.x.xxx/cgi/mjpg/mjpg.cgi and JPEG selected. So far, I like it. I still wish Airlink made a pan/tilt cam without IR for pointing out of the window. I might have to get one and block out the IR or disconnect it internally.

IP cams, like Airlink 747W, can be controlled through the web interface remotely if you have the port forwarded. I have my 747W on Icamsource, but can also see it and control it on the internet and on SkyIPCam app on my phone. Also need a host domain in case the your IP is not static and run dns updater or add the host domain info in the router. I finally got all of this working at a remote site after reading older posts here and getting advice from the fine people at SKJM.

It would be nice to control pan and tilt through Icamsource, but it can be done in other ways. I'm sticking with Airlink IP cams, I like the SkyIPCam app and the web interface.

Thanks for the reply. I'm pretty happy with the 747W. I downloaded the manual for the 1620W and it appears to have the same web interface. I should receive it by next week and I'll post my opinion when I get a chance to get it set up.

Network / IP Camera Compatibility / Airlink 1620W
« on: October 16, 2011, 05:12:59 PM »
I purchased an Airlink 747W ealier this year and I like it for indoor use. I have it at a remote location and am able to see it on the web with port forwarding. I can also see it on my Android phone using the SkyIPCam app. I wished that Airlink made a similar camera like the 747/777 pan/tilt cams without IR or be able to turn off IR because I want to point it outside and don't want the IR glare on the window. I like the SkyIPCam app, so I ordered an Airlink 1620W. Spec sheet shows that it uses MPEG4 and MJPEG, so I'm assuming it is compatable with Icamsource in MJPEG mode.

I don't see the 1620W listed anywhere on this forum. Or its PoE counterpart, 1620PoE. Has anyone tried either of these two cams?

I just checked the IP cam image, which is facing indoors, and it looks ok during daylight hours. I'm much happier with the IP cam image after changing the frame rate to 5. I was hating it a couple of weeks ago. Thanks again.

Update:

Changed the IP cam (Airlink 747w) from 30fps to 5fps. The image is much better at night now. Also changed the HTTP from 80 to 8000 and port forwarded port 8000 in the Netgear router to the IP cam IP address. I can now see the cam remotely using the web configuration on my Windows 7 laptop at a restaurant with WIFI. Can also see it from home and on my DroidX with SkyIPCam app. I did not set up the IP cam using Icamsource at the remote site as explained below.

Since I can't see my desktop computer using Remote Desktop, I'm using my XP Pro laptop temporarily at my remote site until I get the desktop re-imaged and working to use RDP. The laptop only has one good USB port and I connected the Logitech Pro 9000 to it. I tried to run the Logitech and IP cam in Icamsource on the laptop, but the laptop is weak and the Logitech image was flickering and unstable. By itself, the Logitech was stable. I connected the IP cam to Icamsource on my home computer when I got home today. It is running from remote site with a Logitech that is at home. I'm still amazed that it is possible to do this.

In the end, I can see the remote laptop, IP cam and Netgear (turned on Remote Management) all remotely. Through the different posts that I read on this site, I learned how to do port forwarding, connect the remote IP cam to my home computer Icamsource and setting up a DNS domain. Thanks to all that have given advice to me and others. I have printed up different posts so I could put it all together.

Question concerning the Airlink 747w: On the web configuration there is a Nightmode option. I turned it on from home and the image is brighter. The documentation does not make any reference to this feature. What effect will this have during the day time?

Thanks for the tip. I called Fairpoint and asked them if they are blocking any ports and the lady disappeared for a bit and came back on the line and said the modem shows up without anything blocked. I've seen posts on the web saying otherwise. Will give me something to look into this weekend.
