iCam Support / 3G Connection Anomaly
« on: February 16, 2012, 05:12:08 PM »
I have two separate installations of iCamSource.  Each has its own Mac mini running iCamSource, connecting via wireless network to a cable modem.  I can connect to one of them on my iPhone4S via 3G or when I'm connected to any Wi-Fi.  The other one I can only connect to when I'm connected to Wi-Fi.

The only difference between the two setups is the are connected to different cable providers with a different level of service (one is 16Mb the other only 3Mb).

This has only become a problem in the past couple of weeks.

Any ideas on what could be causing this problem?

iCam Support / New Version won't allow me to "Start"
« on: September 26, 2010, 11:29:10 AM »
The Start button on the Preferences screen is grayed out and the Start option on the drop down is grayed out.

Can't see if it works if I can't start it.

iCam v2.1. Mac OSX 10.6.4.

iCam Support / iCam does not work on Mac Mini running OS X 10.6.3
« on: May 13, 2010, 09:37:40 PM »
I have 2 computers connected to the same router: a MacBook Pro running OS X 10.5.8 and a Mac Mini running 10.6.3.  I can get the MacBook Pro to work fine. But the Mac Mini just will not work.  Here is my setup:

Both are connected to the same wireless router.  Both have the same permissions and open ports on the router.  Both have the software firewall activated with the exact same settings.

I have 3 cameras hooked to the mini - 2 HP USB webcams and 1 Airlink wireless IP cam.  All of these cameras function perfectly when connected to the Macbook.  I have 3 instances of iCamSource launching at login.  They will start but even though each instance has Auto Start checked, none of the instances will actually "start" when launched.  Each instance has to be opened and started manually.  This is bug #1.

No camera attached to the Mini will communicate with the iCam servers.  I have the same username and password for the Macbook and the mini.  When I go to the iPhone, the camera on the Macbook is there but the ones from the Mini are not.

After wrestling with this 3 months ago to no avail, I set it aside having reached the conclusion that I had screwed up my user accounts somehow and the iCamSource application was running under one user account and a different account was controlling the connection to the internet.  I decided to wipe the Mini clean and rebuild it from scratch.  I completed this last night.

Nothing.  The iCamSource launches at login but doesn't start.  When I start it manually, I can see the camera through the preferences screen but it will not communicate with the iCam servers and thereby will not communicate to the iPhone.

With all of this, I've concluded one thing -- iCam works on a Macbook Pro running 10.5.8 and does not work on a Mini running 10.6.3.  Those are the only variables -- the hardware platform and the OS.  If there's something else at work, it is completely buried from my view.  I am running iCamSource 1.4.2 on both machines.  I have not loaded the 1.4.2.5 beta and will not unless someone can articulate why the version I have will not work with my configuration and why the beta version will.

I have been very impressed with the app....when it works.  I'm at the end of my rope and ready to go find another solution to meet my needs.  One last chance, guys - any suggestions?

iCam Support / New computer, same settings, no luck
« on: February 07, 2010, 12:59:51 PM »
I have a new Mac Mini that I'm trying to configure as my iCam server.  I have two webcams and one wireless camera connected with a separate iCamSource instance running for each.  When I open preferences I can see the feed from the webcams but I cannot see the feed from the wireless camera.  When I run iCamSource on my Macbook I can see the wireless camera in preferences.  When I run Icam on the iPhone I can see the feed from the Macbook but nothing comes across from the Mini. ???

I've double and triple checked all of my settings on iCamSource and everything is identical.  The only difference I know of between the two computers is the Macbook is on OS X 10.5.8 (Leopard) and the Mini is running OS X 10.6.2 (Snow Leopard).  Is there something different I should be doing on Snow Leopard than on Leopard?

iCam Support / USB Issues
« on: January 23, 2010, 12:31:15 PM »
I've run into a couple of issues with this app that I've traced back to problems with one of my USB ports.  The right hand port on my Macbook Pro also powers the iSight camera.  This causes any USB camera on that port to not work properly with this app and cause problems for other cameras trying to connect (even IP cameras not coming through USB.)  If found this link http://createdigitalmusic.com/2009/04/27/mac-usb-audio-woes-m-audio-says-avoid-the-left-hand-usb-port/ that talks about this at some length regarding audio devices.  (Note:  the title and early posts have the right/left reference backwards.  The problem occurs on my 15" Macbook Pro with the USB port on the right side, not the side with the power connection.)

All laptops seem to share the problem of putting multiple devices on a single USB bus (bluetooth, built-in cameras, keyboards, trackpads, etc.)  This appears to cause the port to deliver insufficient power to the device.  Go to System Profiler on Mac (System Manager on Windows) and check our USB devices to see if you have more than one device showing up on a single USB bus.  This may be the cause of problems with multiple USB cameras.

iCam Support / Latest OS X security update disabled iCamSource
« on: January 22, 2010, 04:26:38 PM »
Last night I was doing some testing with some new hardware for iCam.  Everything was going well.  At the same time, I was downloading and installing the latest Security Update from Apple.  Once the install was complete and the system restarted two things happened.  iCamSource could not connect to my wireless camera or the iCamSource servers, all of which had been working flawlessly before.  When I go to the admin screen on the wireless camera, it works fine.  I spent some time trying some basics and I haven't started digging "under the hood" but it appears the latest security update for OS X appears to be interfering with iCamSource's ability to communicate via the network with IP cameras and the servers.

Any ideas?
