iCam Support / Re: REQUEST: Area Motion Detection

Another vote for this, I hope this gets put in, soon, please. Front yard cam next to useless because of wind tree movement, kids playing under swing under tree, etc. Still have to run icam with my other software which does allows me to pixel out via of a mask anything that moves. Puts a real load on the Mac. :-[ Usually only turn on iCam when traveling because of this.  In the house, cat sets it off. Could mask most of the floor out as it points to my front door/windows to avoid this problem. Pointing the cam up, i.e. catching a lot of ceiling helps, but then doesn't allow me to see the whole living room/front door.

Once we have completed work on the next major version of the iCamSource application we will be adding iPad-optimizations to iCam.

What sort of fast application switching functionality are you interested in?

Will the optimized iPad iCam release be in the same app as the iphone, or will it be in a separate iPad release, i.e. will have to rebuy?

We don't have a definite date in mind, as we are going to be working on the next major update to the iCamSource first.

Request.... Please add a delay in (seconds/minutes) preference before software becomes active, i.e. before it tries to connect to a webcam and bring it on-line, option. I have a problem when the power goes out, the computer boots faster than the webcam can come on line. Icamsource starts up. I find icamsource not running with erroneous error messages. The problem is one webcam is a tilt pan webcam. It has to rotate the lens, going to a parked position, back to center. It takes time for it to reset itself, i.e. power up (it has a built in webserver)/rotate.  I could, I guess, put in a batch job to fire up at boot, but, would be nice to have it in the app. thanks.

Unfortunately, all of the cameras that we have tested with iCam are indoor cameras, so we can't really give any advice on outdoor cameras.  Axis, Canon, and Panasonic cameras are known to work with iCam, and they have several outdoor models.

Well, I have a Panasonic Bl-C10A mounted in a bird feeder. A Lowe's buy, it looks like a little red house/school house, with windows. I blacked out one window, reflection, replaced the plastic clear window pane, can't use it,  with high quality plexiglass. I drilled out the bottom to accept PVC pipe. This is a bit of a problem because the wind can make it move. I would now just buy the metal pole and drill out a hole at the bottom for the wires.  I have the power and cat 5 cable running down it. The cat 5 is connected to a broadband over power device you can buy. Note: I have one wireless webcam, same vendor, it stinks.. stick if you can to wire. Make sure you turn off the access light on the webcam, again reflection at night off the plexiglass, and be advised that the heat sensor on a webcam will not work through plexiglass. I do have the heat sensor on and setup up to send me a notice. This is in case someone tries to open up bird feeder. Then again, I have another webcam over looking/protecting this one.  I use webcam software on my Mac as the main software that can pickup movement.  Been using it for 3 years, no problems, in Virginia summer heat, and cold winters

Note: you have to cut out the cross white piece, leaving the white frame,  in the window used for the cam. Gives it an open door look. :)

So far, caught neighbor and his friend stealing newspaper... Some woman walking dog on Sunday, looking around and then stealing paper, amazing, isn't it..... Bike thieves.... stole neighbor's bikes... nice movie of them, given to the police.  One was walking up into my house, pretending to be on cell phone, cam caught them, then one of my 45 lb dog, greeted them at the door. She was not amused. Yes, I live in a good neighbor.. Nicer things to steal, the nicer the neighbor.

PS, be advised, the Panasonic is for indoor use. There are operation temp ranges given on most webcams. As I say, I ignored them, with this setup... So, you do take a risk, and the risk is yours,  and,  my guess is,  the vendor warranty isn't worth anything if used this way.

We made some minor changes to iSpy Cameras in order to optimize it for iPad, submitted it today and it was approved within less than 2 hours (absolutely mind-boggling since it used to take up to two weeks to hear a response) so we will probably start discussing how best to bring iCam to the iPad as well. :)

Hi, do you an idea when you might release icam for the iPad? From the above, I see it is in the queue.  I am after the native resolution for the iPad more than anything. Just don't want to buy the iPhone/iTouch version, I don't own either, and then have to buy the iPad release.  thanks.

We're interested in developing for the iPad, but we don't have any concrete plans for iPad specific features for iCam.  We'll probably support the iPad's native resolution so that it won't be stretched out and pixelated to fit in the iPad screen.  That hasn't been developed yet, so it may not be available on the first day iPads are delivered.

We'll need to get an idea of how many iPad users we have before we can decide how much effort to put into iPad specific development.

Not sure how you are counting people up, but, I would just like to see it ported over with the native resolution, not an iphone, or itouch owner. Pre-ordered an iPad.  I only have two webcams running, would not expand more than 1 more, so four is fine with me. More interested in alerts.  With OS 4.0 coming with multitasking, this makes this a much more useful app.
