New user, remote login, iMac
« on: December 13, 2010, 06:24:21 AM »
Hi everyone. Just downloaded iCam and iCamsource for my iMac. Got it all set up and working on my iPhone. I did a search but could not fond this.

A) Do I need to keep my iMac on including screen etc. all day whilst I am at work just so I can see my office (haven't obstacles any other cameras around house yet) from my iPhone?

B) Will the iCam Source still work if iMac in sleep mode?

C) if I forget to turn on ICam Source before I leave, can I turn it on remotely using my iPhone? I have tried but it doesnt seem to work?

D) Can I install iCam on my Work PC and see my office from my PC at work? How do you do this?

E) can anyone recommend any 'other' cameras I can put up around the house which will work with my iMac which is plugged via Ethernet into my Netgear Wireless Nodem Router?

Sorry but I am desperately technologically challenged and your help will be so appreciated.

Thank you
L

The computer does need to be on, with the iCamSource program running.  It's ok if the display goes to sleep, but the computer can't go to sleep because iCamSource wouldn't be running anymore.

There isn't any way to remotely launch iCamSource with the iCam app.

You can view your webcam (video-only) from a desktop computer using iCamWeb : http://skjm.com/icam/web

iCamWeb uses a Java applet to connect to iCamSource, so Java must be installed on the computer.

iCamSource has video-only support for Wi-Fi cameras that output MJPEG or JPEG formatted data over HTTP.  We currently own and use the following Wi-Fi cameras which are compatible with the iCamSource:

Linksys WVC54GCA - http://www.linksysbycisco.com/US/en/products/WVC54GCA
AirLink101 SkyIPCam500W - http://www.airlink101.com/products/aicn500w.php
AirLink101 SkyIPCam747W - http://www.airlink101.com/products/aicn747w.php

So far, we haven't had any problem with any of those models.

Thank you for this information.  I have tried to install the java based iCam for my Desktop computer at work and it says there are no sources connected to my login.  I assume I used the same login details that my iphone uses to access my Webcam at home (which works perfectly), but doesn't seem to work on my PC at work?

Any ideas?

If it works on your iPhone but you see the No Sources Found error in iCamWeb, then it definitely sounds like a typo in the login or password.  Make sure that the Caps Lock is off, since upper and lower case does matter.

If you still can't get it to work, please send an email to support@skjm.com with your computer's external IP address.  To get that, go to http://whatismyip.com in your computer's web browser.  Please refer to this forum thread in your email.
