iCam Support / Re: Mac OSX 10.7 "Lion"
« on: July 29, 2011, 05:11:36 PM »
In our preliminary testing it appears to be an issue with the audio stream coming from the camera. If you choose "No Audio" in the iCamSource do you see a large drop in the % CPU usage?

UPDATE: Actually, it may not be an audio issue, because on my Mac Pro when I select the Logitech C510 in the development version of the iCamSource I see a large amount of jpegdecompress_MPLoop threads created by the system waiting in a JPEG_CComponentDispatch function ... So it is likely due to how Lion / QuickTime does the back-end processing of the video stream coming from the camera.

UPDATE 2: When running Photo Booth with my 27" Cinema Display's Built-In iSight the VTDecoderXPCService helper process is jumping between 35-45% CPU. This seems to be an issue with Lion's video handling back-end. Hopefully 10.7.1 will fix this issue.

I have the same CPU usage issue on our 27" iMac i7 as well.... 25-30% usage with iCamSource or PhotoBooth. I'm suspecting an OS issue here.

How does the % CPU usage of the helper process look when running other webcam-enabled applications like Photo Booth?

It's the same.... 25-30% CPU usage.

Maybe this is a video issue with the new OS.

There are lots of factors that you can change to effect CPU usage.

Are you just running the iCamSource with the Built-In iSight camera?

Version 2.2.3 of the iCamSource running on a Late 2008 13-inch Aluminum MacBook 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4 GB of RAM running OS X 10.7 uses around 10% CPU with Motion Detection enabled and detecting "More Often" with the iCamSource Preferences window closed.

(Closing the iCamSource Preferences window does improve CPU usage because the preview image does not need to be rendered.)

Yes... using the onboard iSight camera built into the iMac. We are also running Lion on the Machine. The process I see sucking up the cycles is the new QuickTime sandbox "VTDecoderXPCService".... when iCam is off, it's at 0% CPU. When I turn iCam on, it jumps to 25-30% CPU usage.

iCam Support / CPU Usage

I see this has been discussed on previous threads. But I wanted to bring it up again. I'm noticing 25-30% CPU usage on an i7 quad-core iMac with 8GB of RAM. I realize that you have motion-detection algorithms running in the background, but is there any way you could streamline your code to bring this down to a reasonable <10%? That seems to be pretty high CPU utilization on such a fast processor.

I was reading about a glitch with Adobe Flash in the new OS...Adobe said it's possibly because Lion (apparently) disabled hardware acceleration. You might try exiting icamsource, enabling hardware acceleration in the settings, and then restarting icamsource.

Adobe has retracted that claim.

iCam Support / REQUEST: Multiple login/passwords for various cameras
« on: March 22, 2011, 09:30:06 AM »
I have multiple cameras I wish to track. Some are at home, and some are at our studio.

However... I do not want the same login/password for all of the cameras as my partners at the studio wish to be able to monitor the cameras here as well.

So I need the app to be able to securely monitor my home cameras on one login/password.... and to be able to securely monitor my cameras at the studio on a separate login/password.

Thanks!

iCam Support / Multiple machines

I would love to see iCam have the ability to change between machines. For instance... I have an iMac at home I'd love to have bookmarked... as well as my studio machine.... quick bookmarks would be great.

Or better yet... allow for different machines to stream to different windows on the iPhone.
