I'm using an iMac running the latest OS Lion software...

I know this sounds weird but I have been a long time user and will at times open the icam on my iPhone and be able to hear what is going on in the kitchen since my computer is in an office adjacent to the kitchen. For the last couple of days I have become aware that I was not listening to "live" audio. I opened it and heard my wife talking to our son and both should have left for work. I called my wife and she said yes, she was at work not at home. Tonite my wife and I went to the store and I opened icam at the store and heard her talking in the kitchen to our son - she was standing next to me so I know it wasn't live. She was talking about something that she said she talked about an hour earlier. Where could that audio be coming from since I was only aware of image files being stored. This sounds twilight zone I know but it has really happened as I have described it.Any ideas? Thanks.

Sorry. I have been sick and just got a chance to look at this again. I will try the video suggestion Stefan and let you know. Basically, I guess my question is "If the ipnone is plugged into power, should anything be able to cause the battery to drain?"

Basically, I plug in the Apple charger to the wall, plug it in the phone and the top right little battery icon shows the charging icon. I open icam and have it on one camera using earphones - so i'm just watching one camera with audio. When I have stopped and looked at the battery it is sometimes in the teens. I have tried some tests of running icam and then stopping to open a battery monitor that also shows "charging" OR "discharging" - even though the phone is plugged in, it will show discharging for a bit and then switch to charging. It may be something else, but I have only had this happen when I have used the icam for an extended time viewing one camera - where the iphone is plugged into power and ends up with less battery than when I have been viewing icam. Anything you would suggest I try to help identify that it is not either icam or how I am using it. Thanks for your time and help. Bill

I am having a problem when I use the icam app to monitor my home for an extended time. I have my iPhone plugged into power while using the icam app. If I check the battery with a battery app I see that the battery has actually discharged from where it was when I plugged in the power cord and started the icam app. I did not think there would be a problem if I used the power cord. Does this make any sense at all? A few times I have not checked quickly enough and the battery would be at single digits even though it is plugged into power! Can the app use more "juice" from the battery than the power cord can supply? This has happened consistently for me and if there are any suggestions as to what I should do, please let me know. Thanks. Bill

I did reboot both computers and also downloaded the 1.3.2 update for icamsource and now everything is working ok again. Thanks for your help.

Sorry I wasn't clear. What I was trying to ask is "is there a physical connection between the network camera and the pc running the icamsource" my ignorance of the setup has me thinking in terms of a tv using a hardwired cable to a cable box to receive tv signals....sorry to need such basic information but as I said I know nothing of networking. I'm assuming that I need to supply power to the network camera or are they battery powered. These aspects kind of influence where I think I can put additional cameras around the house. Thanks again for your patience and for also providing us with a super app that users are going to find all sorts of uses for. Bill

iCam Support / 2nd iCamSource on different computer stopped working
« on: July 24, 2009, 09:56:05 AM »
I have been using the iCam for weeks now and the setup was - a Logitech usb camera on a windows PC and then a Mac laptop using the builtin camera. these computers are in different rooms in my house. I was able to start an iCamSource on each machine with the same ID and password and then on my iPhone I saw both preview windows and could expand each with no problems. Last night the mac laptop iCamSource stopped working. I don't see the preview window on my iphone. On the mac laptop I stopped iCamSource and restarted it and it still didn't work. When I start click the START button on the iCamSource it toggles to a STOP but I noticed that the NUM RUNNING count still says 0. I don't know why it would be an issue but last night my wife installed iCam on her iphone and we are both able to see the PC iCamSource but not the mac laptop - I'm assuming because of some issue with the iCamSource on the mac laptop - not showing 1 running. Any ideas? Thanks!

Jay, how does a "network" camera connect to the computer? If I install a network in a different room from the computer, how does the iCanSource get the signal from the camera? Sorry, I know nothing about network stuff...Bill

Thanks Jay. So, Using a Network camera is all I need to monitor a different room than the one where my PC is located. What steps are necessary to get it up and running with the iCam software - both iCamSource and iCam on the iPhone? Thanks for your patience and help with someone trying to understand what I can do and how to do it...Bill

Can someone give a brief simple basic explanation as to the types of cameras that can be used and what the setup requirements are for the various types that are supported...I currently have a PC Logitech Quickcam Pro 9000 hooked to a Vista machine and want to see how additional cameras can be added to other rooms where I don't have my PC...thanks in advance for anyone who can help out....Bill

iCam Support / Re: Audio Not Working
« on: June 24, 2009, 12:00:07 AM »
OK heres the update. The audio worked from last night when I updated you until this evening. I checked thru the day and always had audio so I thought switching USB ports had fixed it. This evening when I checked, there was no audio and the infamous "ringer" when I adjusted the volume. I was sitting in front of my PC with the iCamSource running - video displayed fine and no indication of anything wrong. I clicked the "Stop" button on the iCamSource screen and the iCam window on my iPhone showed "Lost connection". I then clicked on the "Start" button that had replaced the "Stop" button and the iCamSource window started displaying the video again and on my iPhone when the video appeared I zoomed and had audio again. As of now I still have audio at about 11:00PM. Any ideas about things that could interrupt the audio from working?

So are you saying that the video shows how it is GOING TO BE with the NEXT release and not how it works now? If that was explained somewhere on your site - I missed it. $0.99 for the Push Notifications seems very reasonable....thanks

Yes, the audio stops working while the iCamSource is running. Yes - the iCamSource was running and I was getting audio. Then, when I checked it again (without stopping the iCamSource) I was not receiving any audio.

Yes - the Audio Enabled switch in the iCam options set is set ON.  I did have a problem with my USB devices so I changed the USB device ports around and have not had any problems since - about 5 hours ago. I'll keep monitoring and see if the audio stays on. Is it possible there is a flaky USB slot? Thanks for staying involved with this issue. Bill

Sorry Stefan, it stopped working again. Any ideas as to why it would work for a while and then stop. Anything to check or verify setup wise. Anything you can think of as to why the audio would drop off when everything else appears to work fine? It was working and then it stopped working. I had left everything working OK and then checked later and I did not hear any sound and tried the volume adjuxtment and it showed "ringer". Thanks for your help.
